How to be a grandmaster in chinese martial arts

People like Ip Man, Huang Feihong, Hou Yuanjia and many others are called Grandmasters.

So what are the criteas that you need to hit/do before you can achieve the title of grandmaster?

Who is the 1 that give them the title of grandmaster? Is it self bestowed, they call themself Grandmaster?

How come Bruce Lee is not considered a Grandmaster even though he win so many competition, defeat so many experts, created and taught his own martial arts?

Any truth to the competition between Schools as portrayed by movies?

I understand that movies exaggerate certain things in history but it sparked a question to whether different schools of martial arts competed against each other?

As portrayed in the movies, schools would challenge another school and compete, with the winner taking the losers school wooden banner. Did this actually happen in the early history of martial arts?

Ip Man overated in history

I think Ip Man is the most overated martial art person in the world.

Ip Man merely teached Wing Chun but there was no evidence of him being a martial art expert as he did not win in any martial art competition or defeated any top martial art expert.

Whereas Bruce Lee and Huo Yuanjia defeated many top martial art experts and Bruce Lee won many martial art competition too so we can be sure that they are real martial art expert.

In fact, Ip Man could become famous is because of his student Bruce Lee. If there was no Bruce Lee, Ip Man will be a nobody

Jeet Kund Do

Bruce Lee first learned Wing Chun, used it to defeat all the top opponents when he was in america causing him to become famous and than he went to develop Jeet Kund Do and say that it is better than Wing Chun as it removes all the unecessary moves and add in moves from other martial arts which he learned.

But the fact is that he did not use Jeet Kind Do to defeat any top Wing Chun opponents so we can't be sure about his claims that it is better than Wing Chun..

Yip Man Biography

I have finished watching Yip Man 1 and Yip Man 2 with Donnie Yen. They are great movies. I was just wondering if any of the stuff in the movies is true. It's hard to distinguish fact from fiction in movies about heroes. I would appreciate if someone gave a factual biography about Yip Man.

Effectiveness of Asian Martial Arts

I recently watched a few movies where Chinese kungfu masters were forced to fight European boxers and wrestlers. In these movies, the Chinese kungfu masters always struggled in the beginning and many of them were beaten half to death (or completely) until finally the hero (another Chinese kungfu master) would come to defeat the Europeans although it'd be no picnic either.

Obviously I understand these are just movies and they are for entertainment first, but it did get me thinking. Just how effective is Chinese kungfu, or Asian martial arts in general, in real life? Has anyone done any kind of study or tests?
