Who hasn't heard of the terrorists in these last five years? From September 11th to the beheadings in Iraq, and from Pakistan President Musharaf's speech today at the UN all the way to the fight bewteen Chechen rebels in southern Russia, terrorism has been all over the news in the last decade...

And here is what I am asking myself: Are the US treating the problem correctly? Have they been too weak with the way they dealt with Afghanistan and Iraq? Or too strong?
And this leads me to the next question, the real important question:

How would China deal with terrorists? How would China respond to a 9/11 in Beijing or Shanghai? How come Islam extremists don't mess with Chinese contract workers in Iraq, and one time when they captured a few of them they were hastily released...
Sure, the answer would be "China is not against the Islam's points of view" or "China is not a western civilization putting down the Palestinians and favoring the Jews in Gaza"... But beyond that, it seems to me that the terrorists have some kind of unique fear of messing with China.

Am I wrong here, or is that so? :)

Heh, this kind of reminds me of Command and Conquer: Generals. ^_^

---

I believe as long as U.S./Western imperialism exists, so will terrorism. It's like the Yin & Yang. The harder you push someone, the harder they will push back. With that said, I am as much against terrorism as I am against U.S. imperialism. It's naive to think that one can "defeat" and/or "eliminate" terrorism. I believe the U.S. government knows this as they are in no way stupid and they are just using this as an excuse to invade anyone who they see as "terrorists".

Terrorists is the new communist.

---

China has its own problem with terrorists, namely in the Xinjiang problem with the Uighur separatists who have committed numerous terrorists acts against Han Chinese and the last time I checked, they were suspected to have ties with Al Qaeda, which shouldn't be surprising.

Unlike U.S., China isn't anti-Islamic or anti-Arab. China isn't part of this "Holy War" between Christianity and Islam. Instead, they are simply trying to eliminate terrorism within their own borders and not invade and conquer others in foreign soil.

i think one thing is ver interesting is that you can hardly see any terrorist(i perfer islamic extremists) avtivities from chinese media. when china released islamic extremists terror attack record, i was kind amazed since i never heard so many attacks. i heard only one or two attacks on news, but not so many. just take a look at those islamic extremists, they film beheadings in iraq and setup cameras in russian school. they are looking for airtime and trying to send out their messages. i kind understand that the chinese government doesn't want to encourage those terrorists by report them.

The U.S. government isn't stupid. They have a very strict rule on not negotiating with those who threaten them like kidnappers and terrorists. However, the reason why U.S. government allows so much news coverage (and maybe even exaggerate some) on terrorist activities is because they want the American people to be scared. Only when the American people are scared do they support every move the U.S. government makes without thinking twice about it. Just look at how much Bush has already gotten away with. Of course, history won't be so kind and remember Bush as the "hero" as he wishes to be. <_< At least I hope not.

Like the US, one long term problem will be Pakistan. The border between Pakistan and China has more traffic now since business is picking up. Sooner or later some of the "merchants" from the Pakistan side that enter into China have other agenda/intentions. The increase of traffic on China's border with Muslim countries increases amount of influence foreign muslims have with the native population, and sometimes it can include fundamentalists. If you look at Hui and Uighur religious history, they have been shown to be easily impressionable by foreign muslim, usually automatically associating them with being up to date with developments in Mecca.
