Hanwu Dadi (the Wu Emperor of Han - Han Wudi)
- this tells the story of Han Wudi, also includes Han Jindi, and their battle against XiongNu.
Qianlong Dynasty
- this tells of the story of Qianlong emperor of Qing, at a time when Qing was at the peak of its power.
I'm currently watching them now..

Recently, PRC just produced two extra outstanding historical TV series:
Hanwu Dadi (the Wu Emperor of Han - Han Wudi)
- this tells the story of Han Wudi, also includes Han Jindi, and their battle against XiongNu.
Qianlong Dynasty
- this tells of the story of Qianlong emperor of Qing, at a time when Qing was at the peak of its power.
I'm currently watching them now..
Yes Han Wu Da Di is really cool, especially the dress and armor

roughtly translated...
the six states destroyed the six states, not qin.
qin ruled qin, not the whole country.

Han Wu Dadi's costumes are not impressive. The palace ladies' costumes are actually replicas of those from Japanese samurai movies set in Ashikaga and Kamakura periods. Which is very very strange. (They cuold at least change the colour so that it might resemble less costumes of the Bakufu period)
And, if you speak Chinese, the dialogs of Han Wu Dadi are very lousy, ridden with amateurisms and anachronisms.
Certain Manchu Qing themes are of good qualities, especially the ones centered around one Manchu emperor. But some Manchu themes are cheaply done, especially the ones influenced by Qiongyao and Huanzhu Gege.
Tang themes are lacking. Song-Liao-Jin themes are absent (except for Jinyong's Wuxia themes) and Ming themes are scarce. Although these would make the BEST historical drama series.
The Genghis Khan series are excellent. It breaks the mold of stereotypical Chinese historical dramas.

Kudos to Cheng Bao Guo for his excellent portray of Liu Che (Han Wu Di). I really did think that I was seeing this legendary ruler live! But of course, the best part of the series was that it totally recreated military legends such as Wei Qing and Huo Qubing.
Well, I'm guessing you can tell who's my favorite judging from the pics I've posted

The only thing that I can think of to complain about is that there should be way more battle scenes. And more screen time for Huo Qubing.
All of the series mentioned by General ZhaoYun are extremely well done, but I'd also recommend "Tang Ming Huang" (唐明皇). I believe it was produced in the early nineties by Mainland, and it details the life and reign of Li Long Ji. "Da Min Gong Ci" (大明宫词) was also memorable, as it narrates the life of Princess Tai Ping, daughter of Wu Ze Tian. An interesting take on an often misunderstood character.

What kind of script is this: "见敌就杀, 记住!" ?
In "Laurence of Arabia" it was "TAKE NOOOO PRISONERRRRR!"
Pretty much, or even more literally, "Kill any enemies that you see!"
Hah, General Huo commanding his troops a la "Laurence of Arabia" style is too good
The prelude scene up until this one line is actually pretty hilarious, as it involves Huo Qubing's second asking him where exactly they are, and then him retorting back that all they need to concern themselves with is riding into battle with him and killing as many enemies as they can. Apparently they're lost, but he's trying to make the best of a grey situation
