I think that hky4eva is completely incorrect and is some sad case in an internet cafe 24 hours a day with nothing good to do. He starts these threads create arguments which just annoy people like me. And I don't think that your from HK because why would people from HK post threads in an China forum? This guy is a complete loser and a dandruff sniffer.
bye bye BAKIT! :haha:

1. If you think I'm incorrect, prove it, rather than making unproductive comments.
2. I don't go to internet cafes.
3. I'm a girl not a guy.
4. It is a fact I live in HK, it's undeniable. What's wrong with HK people in a China forum?

Saber, I think you shouldn't be so close-minded. There is nothing wrong with what hky4eva posted. This is a forum and you should listen to what others have to say. Whats wrong with a HK person posting in a China forum? I myself, is a foreigner as well.

Where did you met those northern chinese? in the UK? you should go to northern chian for yourself to see what are the people look like in realty.

I wouldn't call them"pretty dark" tho,as matter of a fact northern chinese are the most light skin chinese.
I randomly searched for "beijing people" and got some pics

Dude, do you have something against dark-skinned people?

Northerners I've seen are tall, broadly-built with dark skin and large cheekbones. The only pale Chinese are from Jiangsu/Zhejiang and parts of Henan, from what I can see.

I agree, I think overall DearCoolz dont look any darker than these girls.

While the pic is a little small to be sure either way, I wonder why are the necks darker than the face? If i didnt know better I would say they are using make-up.

Henan is genetically closer to the south than to Shanxi/Shaanxi/Hebei/Gansu.

Henan is genetically closer to the south than to Shanxi/Shaanxi/Hebei/Gansu.

really? maybe you need to see a map of china

henan is on the same latitude with shaanxi, northern part of henan is bording with shanxi, hebei, and shandong.

facts: henan was the cradle of the chinese civilization, henan never was considered a southern province.
In China, nobody calls Henanese as southern chinese.

in China, everything south of changjiang is considered south China.

With nearly 100 million people, Henan is the most populous province of China. It borders Hebei to the north, Shandong to the northeast, Anhui to the southeast, Hubei to the south, Shaanxi to the west, and Shanxi to the northwest.

Henan is often called Zhongyuan (中原 zhōngyuán) or Zhongzhou (中州 zhōngzhōu), literally "central plains" or "midland"; this name is also broadly applied to the entire North China Plain. Henan is traditionally regarded as the source of Chinese civilization.

Henan is flat in the east and mountainous in the west and extreme south. The eastern and central parts of Henan form part of the North China Plain. To the northwest the Taihang Mountains intrude partially into Henan's borders; to the west the Qinling Mountains enter Henan from the west and end about halfway across Henan, with branches (such as the Funiu Mountains) extending northwards and southwards. To the far south, the Dabie Mountains separate Henan from neighbouring Hubei province.

North China Plain
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
The North China Plain (Chinese: 华北平原; Pinyin: Huáběi Píngyuán), also called the Central Plain (Chinese: 中原; Pinyin: Zhōngyuán), is based on the deposits of the Huang He (Yellow River) and is the largest alluvial plain of eastern Asia. The plain is bordered on the north by the Yanshan Mountains and on the west by the Taihang Mountains. To the south it merges into the Yangtze Plain. From northeast to southeast it fronts the Bohai Gulf, the highlands of Shandong Peninsula, and the Yellow Sea. The Yellow River flows through the middle of the plain into Bohai Gulf.

Historical and cultural significance
Since the beginning of recorded history, the North China Plain has been an important site for Chinese civilization.

In the pre-Qin era, present-day Luoyang and its nearby areas were considered the “Center of the World”, as the political seat of the Xia Dynasty was located around Songshan and the Yiluo River valley.

Inscriptions on some bronze objects from this era contain references to a 'Middle Kingdom', 'Eastern Kingdom', or 'Southern Kingdom'. This indicates that the Central Plain, which was referred as the 'Middle Kingdom' in these inscriptions, was considered to occupy the center of the world.

The Songshu, official history of Song Dynasty states: “Ancient emperors of ability arose in the northwest, that were able to conquer the Central Plain and further occupy the southeast." Zhuge Liang, a famous military strategist also stated that "he would lead an army to conquer the Central Plain." All these point to the fact that the Central Plain was of both political and strategic importance. This may be the reason that many later dynasties selected Luoyang and Kaifeng in the Central Plain as their capitals.

The geography of the North China Plain has had profound cultural and political implications. Unlike southern China, the North China Plain is not divided by mountains or rivers and as a result communication by horse is rapid within the plain. As a result, the spoken language is relatively uniform in contrast to the plethora of dialects in southern China. In addition the possibility of rapid communication has meant that the political center of China has tended to be located in the North China Plain.

Because the fertile soil of the North China Plain gradually merges with the steppes and deserts of Central Asia, with no natural barriers between the two regions, the North China Plain has been prone to invasion from Central Asia and Manchuria, prompting the construction of the Great Wall of China.

Going by that logic, why would people from America post in a Chinese History Forum?

Are you saying I should get off?

What about our Singaporeans? Taiwanese? Europeans?

This is severe Ad Hominem, and will not be tolerated- calling others names is rather unprofessional and undesirable behavior here. Plus, your post itself has very little to disprove it, besides you saying he's wrong and calling him names.

Your behaviors is seriously in need of a tuneup on a professional academic forum like this, and your warning will be boosted. If you cannot argue in an academic manner, then you do not belong here.

Please shape up.

Hi,

used to travel round Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, Shannxi (much less) a lot.. here are my observations

Henan people are definitely more Northern looking than Southern i.e. they are predominantly a northern-kind people... In fact my view is they look more distant from Southern (Eastern) Chinese than Shandong or Northeast Province peoples....
They seem to look closest to people from Shaanxi and northern Hubei, (never been to Shanxi so not able to tell).

In fact I tend to believe besides a North-South divide, there is also a East-West divide in looks too among Chinese.

(part of the reason is I almost never get picked out as a non-local 外地人 in the eastern provinces, but almost always do in places like Henan and Hubei)
