Many Emperors usually have more than one wife throughout their reign. Some historical context stated that the Emperor take turns sleeping with his concubines. The interesting question is did any of the Emperors at any time have an orgy with all their concubines at one time? If they did, it might have been the largest ever in the history of orgy since some Emperor may posses more than a hundred or even a thousand. Just curious. :b_evil:

Man, what a question for a first post at CHF...
I doubt there is much to draw on documentary history.
If there is, I'll like to know too.

Anyway, stay tight for now until someone gives you a better answer - while you engage on your own. :b_evil:

I rather doubt it and if I'm wrong, hopefully another more knowledgable forummer can set the record straight.

Bedding down with the Emperor was pretty regimented. The palace eunuchs scheduled certain concubine's to go into the Emperor's bed chamber at certain times. They did this because they wanted to chronicle times of conception--to see whether that child will live an auspicious life or not, and other cosmological predictions--and to ensure that certain concubines or the Empress visited the chamber at peak fertility times, eg the middle of the month. They also wanted to ensure that any potential children, hence successors, are definitively offspring of the Emperor.

Hello everyone, I appreciate those that provided or try to provide me some insight into this topic. Thanks to Sir Scholar rooster and Sir Scholar Publius for responding…

Going back to the subject matter - I know that royal rituals and traditions such as whom the Emperor wish to consummate are usually monitor very carefully by royal officials and family members to ensure the proper lineage is pass on... This and those reasons given above by Sir Scholar Publius are crucial and essential to follow by the members of the royal family. However, my concern is, since the Emperor usually has great power and authority over many people he can do however he pleases with his concubines. With that many women in front of his eyes, to satisfy his raging testosterone at certain times, he will and can break certain rules. After all we all know that he is still a human being, and a male one. So I reckon there are no where in the records that this ever happened?

Zunjing de OneWorld,

Whoa, you have started your first post in here with such a burning question!

In fact, it was almost mandatory for Emperors to have numerous concubines in order to sire many heirs to the throne. This was quite necessary since not many babies made it to adulthood back then. It was common for an Emperor to have 3,000 concubines; hence, I believe it would be impossible to sleep with all of them at once.

However, this probably could not happen due to the royal palace protocols. Even if he was an Emperor, he still could not sleep with anyone he wanted or at anytime he wished. It was very important for an Emperor to sleep with women from highly prestigious background. The mothers of heirs to the throne must be of high societal status. Besides this, the exact time when the heirs to the throne were conceived was crucial as it was what would determine their future fortune.

Since the palace regulations were very strict, I hardly doubt an Emperor could be in bed with more than one woman.

This topic certainly reminds me of Wei Xiao Bao, a character in Jin Yong’s “The Duke of Mount Deer” since he actually had an orgy with all seven of his wives at the same time, and impregnated three of them. Of course, this was fictional, but it was still so hilarious! Heheheh!

Good day Lady (I reckon that you’re a fair fine Lady Scholar according to your writings and expressions, and I hope that I’m correct about your gender category, if not I’ll be so embarrassed) Rong Qin Wang.
Yes indeed, I’ve foreseen that people will feel somewhere around that level of sensation regarding my question. But I have a great desire to learn about the psychological process of the people in the past and compare them to the people of today. In all, I have learned that there are significant differences...
Much thanks to your very reasonable response to my question. However, it’s still fascinating to me how even an Emperor with much power and authority has to follow such restrictive ritual. Personally if I were an Emperor (not to say I was once one or will ever be one) I will never go a day without thinking about having multiple orgies with my 3000 concubines. Heheehe. :b_evil: However, with that said, the first and foremost concern during my reign as an Emperor is, safe guard my country and people with all my might and power. I guess in today and age a person with money and power has more life decisions, options, and flexibilities than even that of an Emperor back then. :clapping:

Ahh, you must be talking about the famous Wine Pools and Meat Forests (jiuchi roulin, 酒池)肉林-- so famous that it became a Chinese idiom) of the the last King Zhou of Shang Dynasty who set all his women free amongst pools filled with wine and racks hung with meat so that he can play hide-and-seek with them and have all the food and wine he wanted within easy reach.

I think there were also musicians at hand and other (male) royalty are permitted to join in the fun, which could last all night into the morning-- if that is not an orgy, I don't know what is. So you can understand why almost everyone at the time foresaw the fall of the Shang Dynasty.

Good day Sir Scholar Wang Yun, I guess the discussions from Sir Scholar Publius’s link are the closes thing to what I’ve inquired. Thus far, I am still looking… Appreciate your response.
