Emperor Tang Ming Huang (of Tang dynasty) was so lecherous that he snatched away the wife of his son to be his concubine. This concubine Yang Guifei was reputed to be one of the 4 great beauties in chinese history. It was said that Emperor Tang Ming Huang indulged most of his time with Yang Guifei. Concubine Yang was said to love bathing in the spring.

Who do you think is the most lecherous/perverted king or emperor in the whole of chinese history?

So what did his son do about what he did?

I saw a movie that the father of the last emperor died from sexual disease, and his mother ordered all the doctors who treated him to be killed by poison after he died, not sure whether it is true or not.

I guess we're really talking about which ruler was horniest. <_<

Han Wudi (Liu Che)

Han Chengdi (Liu Ao)

Jin Wudi (Sima Yan)

Shi Hu of the Later Zhao

Qi Wenxuandi (Gao Yang) of the Northern Qi

Zhou Xuandi (Yuwen Yun) of the Northern Zhou

Sui Yangdi (Yang Guang)

Wanyan Liang of the Jurchen Jin dynasty (known posthumously as the Prince of Hailing, rather than as an emperor, because he was overthrown and killed)

Ming Wuzong (Zhu Houzhao), the Zhengde emperor

These were all notorious for their sexual appetites. As for perversion, there are numerous emperors known to have committed incest (sexual relations with female family members). Tang Xuanzong or Tang Minghuang (Li Longji) is only one of them, and a relatively tamer case. But whether it's perversion, or just uncontrolled lust, could be debated.

let us not forget that Dong Zhou want china justto have women and power... if he would have had his way then he would have been the worst of all
When the lights out.. its less dangerous.. here we are now.. entertain us

Lets face the fact, there is no much entertainment in ancient world, so when you have the world at your feet, what else can these emperor hanker after.

Of course they give way to their base instinct.

Human urge cannot be controlled if you are an emporer. But excesses cannot be encouraged. We read history books often written by scholars who despised certain rulers. I bet all Emporers are horny. The only difference is , wether they contribute to the well being of the nation. I have no problem with any emporer who lead his private life with thousand of women in his palace as long as he ruled wisely. There is a big difference between a wise ruler and a horny ruler. Both can coexists.

Chairman Mao had contributed significantly to Modern China and modern Chinese. There is no doubt about that. He deserved to sleep and have fun with any chinese women he liked. As long as he do not stop you from doing the same thing in your small hut with ur wife and girlfriend.

So does Bill Clinton. He can have any interns he liked. As many as he liked and the public should be matured enough to respect the privacy of each individual, including president.

Jia Nanfeng Vs Mao Zedong Vs King Zhou of Shang.

best make it a poll?

I don't know much about Jia Nanfeng or King Zhou of Shang, however Mao (no offence to any of the Chinese People who read this) was one of the worst rulers of China.

As in most perverted? (little girls)
"The total amount of undesired sex endured by women is probably greater in marriage than in prostitution."

"The man who says his wife can't take a joke, forgets that she took him." -Oscar Wilde

There's a way of transferring funds that is even faster than electronic banking. It's called marriage. (all relations to the image below is strictly coincidental)

Zunjing de China History Forum members,

Well, I have personally always tried to look at the positive sides of all Emperors, so I can tell you who were some of the great Emperors, but I have never thought about who was the most lecherous. I guess I cannot really participate in this thread, but there is one thing that I want to share.

I guess it's called tongyangxi in China.

The official age of a girl to get married in ancient China is 15. If a girl didn't get married by 18, her parents will be worried. It's not pervert. The ancient people just get marriedc earlier. The indians also have this kind of practice. Gandhi's wife get married at 12, I remember.

Yes, people had indeed gotten married at what we would consider as a young age today. I believe there was a saying that guys should get married at 16 and girls at 13. I would assume that the reason for “tongyangxi” was because of the regular life expectancy in the ancient time. I don’t think people really expected to live pass the age of 50, so they want to get married at the earliest age that can conceive babies as possible. People in the ancient time were definitely more matured at such an earlier age than we are today. So, I would not be surprised if most people back then were married and had at least one child before turning 20 years old. However, if that is the case today, then I will be totally shocked!

Hmm, I just had a wild thought. You know how people say that teenagers are totally wild these days? I really wonder if arranging a marriage was a way for the parents to calm their teenagers. Well, what do you guys think?

Xie Xie,

From a parent's point of view, I guess, it might be good; as it would actually allow their married teenagers to experiment on sex without having to worry about consequences of pre-martial sex or children out of wedlock. However, there will be drawbacks to this arrangement:

Parents will have to continue to be responsible for their children and grand children for a longer time. So, parents must have sufficient funds to support their children and grandchildren. (I think most parents are already stretched in looking after their children to think of this additional responsibility).

From a teenager's point of view, again there will be pros and cons: Early marriage, especially arranged marriages can be horrors sometimes. Of course where previously in arranged marriages, some may claim, love happens after - once, Oriental arranged marriages were liken to a kettle of cold water being boiled and soon it will turn hot, whilst Western marriages were liken to hot water in kettle turning cold. In the olden days, where divorce are frowned upon and even disallowed, marriage to the wrong part could be hell and some marriages may never reach the level as it was originally intended for - hot and boil with passion and love.

Right now, I just wonder how many teenagers would even allow their parents to even consider arranging a marriage for them, without kicking up a ruckus or even suing parents for violation of their rights? Ok, this are just some of my thoughts, may not necessary reflect how others feel. :)

I think people in the countryside don't really care as much.

My maternal grandmother was married to my grandfather for a dowry of 200 dollars. She didn't care much. My grandmother liked to joke about how stupid and honest my grandfather was.

Still, they have eight children, have a happy and eventful marriage and liked to curse at each other. Sometimes they also fought each other with sticks.

So how old would Emperors/Princes be when they married, in general?

In the Jin dynasty, 14 seems to be a good age for both girls and boys.

Empress Dowager Tzu Hsi was said to smuggle in false eunuchs to fulfill her sexual appetite.

The rest had girls as well as children handed to them, while she had to sneak them in.

IMO she might be the biggest horndog.

You must have been influenced by a certain Sir Edmund Blackhouse who had written a lot on Ci Xi being an expert sinologist during his time, a contemporary of Ci Xi, and he claimed to have had sex with Ci Xi corpse! A lot of history written on Ci Xi was influence by the works of Blackhouse, who was revealed to be an utter fake and "fantasy" writer. Go figure.

It is dubious whether the Xian Feng Emperor contacted STD, but he was known not to have good health and Tong Zhi was said to frequent whorehouse and died of certain STD, which the court recorded as small pox, not malaria. i think

Hmm.. I think you meant Edmund Backhouse. As historian Trevor-Roper uncovered (and subsequently 'popularised' by Sterling Seagrave), Backhouse was in essence a charlatan and would-be pornographer. Its really appalling how the books he co-wrote with J.O.P Bland arguably continue to influence people's perceptions of Cixi.

Oops, resurrected an old post.. lol.. couldnt resist as Cixi is very much the focus of my current research.
All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
