Venerable Ajahn Brahmavamso was born in London in 1951. He regarded himself a Buddhist at the age of 17 after he came in contact with buddhism from browsing on the wrong shelves of a London bookshop.

Buddhism, especially meditation, prevented him from wrecking himself through many popular indulgences of the time. After he graduated from Cambridge University in Theoretical Physics, he ordained as a monk in Bangkok at the age of 23. He became a disciple of late Ajahn Chah at Wat Pah Pong, and trained in the forest meditation tradition. He spent 9 years cultivating his mind (and feeding Thai mosquitoes) in the forest of Thailand. In 1983, he was invited to Australia together with Ajahn Jagaro to set up the Bodhiyana Monastery in Serpentine, Western Australia, by the Buddhist Society of Western Australia.

Ajahn Brahm is currently the Abbot of Bodhinyana Monastery in Western Australia with 22 monks under his training. He is the Spiritual Patron of the Buddhist Fellowship in Singapore.

Ajahn Brahm, an exemplary monk who keeps strictly to his Vinaya vows, inspires millions by his teachings, conduct and practice. Rarely, do you find a monk who is so deserving of great admiration and respect!
