I think that a strong China is good for us overseas Chinese. China send aid to Indonesia, despite smaller than US and Japan but bigger than Arab countries. At the end of WW2, US help European countries to mend their economy which increase the reputation of US. If China can do something like that, at least the locals wont view us as some germ to be exterminated.

Concerning Indonesia, it appear that the goverment tried its best to discredit China even after China send aid to them.

But then again, people like Ken Arok (a historical character...though theres a bit of fiction within the story) is worshiped because he can backstab Tunggul Ametung and take his wife. I guess such is Indonesian culture.

Aid sent there would be wasted, IMO. America had a great reputation after the Marshall Plan but they did not emigrate. Successful immigrants can and often are made into scapegoats by natives.

Da jia ni men hao

After read all the postings at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cinaindo, I doubt if the group is voicing the Chinese Indonesian. Not only most of them only sales and marketing stuffs ;) , but also the majority of Chinese in Indonesia shun the term "Cina."

Hope this information will be useful.

Cheers.

Suhana, you're probably right. Groups sometimes deteriorate into spam fests especially when bots get loose without moderators taking action. The most active indonesian chinese group is probably still budaya_tionghua. They debate some really good stuff there.

i hav an indonesian maid which has been staying with my family for the past 10 years... she is a really great fella....great cooking...great care for our family...
such a kind-hearted soul....god bless her....da tsunami was not able to harm her family....for such a kind-hearted soul would be blessed by god....

While those that perished, lets just say it`s KARMA for them.... , bad leadership of government that leads to a bad community...(would u even call it a community ? after what they have done to the Chinese indons?? pure barbaric creatures...)

Cleansing from God ...

Blame the government for not being able to ease the tension between da separate races instead provoking them to rise against the Chinese indons. For the sake of their jealousy and wanting to be the ones that dominate the economy of Indonesia.... thank god there were some cleansing....(those ppl still think they did no wrong !?!?...how could they !!?)

Karewa, I would think about your words more carefully! Do you mean to say that this "God" Of yours KILLED people, because of what they did to Chinese, hmm?
You act as if this was all deserved. You talk like some sort of terrorist, with talks of "Cleansing". How dare you! What people on this earth were created to be "Cleansed" by death? Did you think about everywhere else that was hit? What did they do to the Chinese? Does Chinese have anything to do with it?

You are now receiving a 10% warning, for this kind of mentality, of "Gods" and "Purges". I would advise you not to behave in the same way.

korewa;

So...what about India, Srilanka and Thailand?

Please, you should not blame all the Indonesian natives for our Govement wrongdoing. Such is the kind of thought that flare the hatred toward other race. No one deserve the misfortune that befall unto them during the Tsunami. No one.

Does every Chinese descendant that suffer misfortune on May 12 to May 15 of 1998 deserve it?

Well...if our former president pass away painfully, then I gues he deserve it. If after his departure, misfortune befall upon his family, well, not that they deserve it but...you reap what you sow. I can only hope that it will be painless.

I'm not a religious person, but i think wat Karewa wasjust expressing her sorry adn fraustration of what the Indonesians did in May 14th massacras.
please check the link below to gain the full graphical image of the atrocities done by the indoniseans (Warning contains images of dicapitated humans adn graphic tales of rape adn multilation)

http://www.huaren.co...man_Rights.html

However i must remind ppl, that although these anti-chinese laws are still inplave in indonesia, it is wise to try and improve situations form within rather then from the outside. Indonesia has a potenial in becoming a very important naval port for the control of the pacific. It could explain why the CCP are not openly critical about this subject.

To SPC4, Chinese heritage are a part of growing up, to both chinese thai and 'pure' (if there are any) thais. its an informal, society process where everyone learn each other's culture. Schools don't teach us chinese history, just 'siamese' history, like 600 years before, which apply to every one that call themselves 'thai.'

considering the situation in indonesia, i would like to know what the actions of the new President is?

...horrible pictures. .. understandable.

After the "Rape of Jakarta" in May 1998, so many forums flourished organised by huaren, unfortunately only few survived to date.
The Chinese in Indonesia still have their division. One group prefer look at the mainland China, while the other look the Netherland as their "homeland", and there is also another group which prefer Indonesia as their "country."

Cheers.

Considering the damages & compensation from any admission of guilt, I doubt any president would want to bring it up.

Despite all this, practicality is still the most important. The fate of overseas Chinese rest on their host government and partly on the influence of the Chinese mainland. I could not agree less.
