Those who pass the exam will be put under a group called "Xiucai Scholar Group". Those who do not want to take the exam will have the option of participating in our "Exemption Scheme".

I just took the exam and scored a 90%. (I may not have a Xiucai Scholar badge as I literally just finished the exam.)

I found it interesting. Are there any other exams that I could take?

There is a higher exam known as Juren exam (after the Xiucai exam). If you wish to take it, simply PM me.

I can honestly say I passed with an 80% without using the internet or any other resource other than my brain. I feel proud of that aspect.

The exam system is a procedure to filter away irrelevant troublemakers such as nationalist, spammers, trolls. It also serves to 'raise the knowledge level' of overall membership, since CHF is an academic and education forum with the sole purpose of making sure members have adequate knowledge in chinese history and culture.

To take the exam, refer to http://www.chinahist...showtopic=14761 for instructions.

I took the exam a few weeks ago and am writing to say that - much as I too hate exams and thought they were over for me - it was not too bad an experience.

Face your fears, go take the exam - with another tab or window of your browser open to enable quick reference to other parts of CHF or Google.

Oh yes, plan to take it when you are not likely to be interrupted!

I like the idea of "exams" I believe I would benefit from this, and I do like research. China has a very rich history.

No fear. :-)

I was impressed by the exam. I have learned quite a lot about periods other than my usual obssessions, and was surprised by the flexibility of the multiple choice format. My girlfriend admired this aspect too, and is now using a similar approach to help her undergraduate students assess and improve their knowledge of religions in medieval Europe.

I just joined the CHF a few days ago, I want to ask two questions regarding the examination.

First, for the Xiucai exam, what is the passing mark? 10 out of 20, or something else?

Second, can someone take the Xiucai exam before his/her number of posts reaching 30?

Thank you.

It's at least 60% to pass, i.e. 12/20

Second, can someone take the Xiucai exam before his/her number of posts reaching 30?

Thank you.

Yes, you can.

I personnally feel the imperial exam is a very important part of this forum.

Generally, the questions posed here are somewhat "weak" in its nature. Probably because lack of research before posting a proper question. Most are not properly thought such as "is xxxx a cruel emperor?" "is xxxx better than xxxx" This sort of ambiguous question can be weeded out with a bit of research (such as using wikipedia). These questions also lead to many more argumentative answer which most of time involve not too polite remarks against each user.

Moreover, without understanding/research, some answers tries to use analogy comparing to other civilisation to strengthen their argument which is very very misleading.

I guess I'll have to take this exam once my posting limit reaches 0..... 25 to go!
