I just watches the first 24 episode and I think it is a great series and can be compare to "Han Wu Da di". It is very historically accurate and lots of cool battle scene between Ming ,Manchu and Li Tzu-ch'eng army. Basically, It tell the stories how the Ming fall and establishment of Manchu dynasty. I can't comment much yet because I haven't finish watching it. I can see lots of resources was used to produce this series. Does anyone finish watching this series?

Basic Stories

It was set around 1449, "Zhu Qizhen was the son of the Xuande Emperor Zhu Zhanji and his Empress Sun. He became emperor at the age of eight. At the age of 22 he was imprisoned by the Mongols when he personally directed and lost a battle against the Mongols under Esen Khan. Although he was a prisoner of the Mongols, he became a good friend to the khan. Meanwhile, his brother Zhu Qiyu was installed as the Jingtai Emperor. This reduced Zhengtong's imperial status." wikipedia

Below are some recommended dramas to watch to learn some Ming dynasty history.

1. The Saga of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang ( 传奇皇帝朱元璋)

The Saga of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang ( 传奇皇帝朱元璋) is another 50 series historical epic drama filmed by China and launched in 2006 following the successful Han Wu Da Di. I've just finished watching it (after buying the DVD in China), and I would say not too bad. It gives some historical understanding into the life story of the founder of Ming dynasty as well as his character, generals etc.

The character Zhu Yuanzhang was acted by the same actor for Han Wu Da Di series (called Chen Baoguo). This historical drama traces how the founder of the Ming dynasty started off his "career" by joining Guo Zixing, then one of the rebels against the Yuan dynasty. Soon after Guo died, Zhu Yuanzhang took over the military position of Guo. Zhu Yuanzhang later defeated Chen Youliang and Zhang Shicheng (other rebels) before campaigning against Yuan dynasty.

There were a few military scenes in the show, but much of the plot were about politics, romance etc. There were many key figures such as Liu Bowen (Zhu Yuanzhang's advisor), Song Lian, Hu Weiyong (who later rebelled). There were also other historical characters such as Zhu Di, Zhu Yunwen etc.

The series is allright, albeit with some distortions to historical facts. It does recount most of the imprtant scenario surrounding the fall of the Ming and the rise of the Ching.

This one goes without saying, Ming Dynasty 1556. Also the same producers are make Ming Dynasty 1587 soon. Perhaps this is a start of a great series. I always hoped they make enough dramas so that the entire history is cover. ^_^

Definitely! This one is one of the best historical drama. I've watched way too many dramas, but this one is definitely one of the best I've watched. It contains great cast, story line is good, and it sticks to the history. This one is an A++ for sure!

dajia hao! hello everyone!

I'm new here. I want to look for one particular Chinese TV series. I don't know its title, but i know its plot and some of its characters. The main character is Wang Yang Ming 王阳明. He is like a teacher to the king/emperor. This emperor is young and he has one 公公 who holds a grudge against him. This gong gong's name is Li Jing. He's mad because his family offered him to the royal palace to be a gong gong since he's 8 years old. He wants to take revenge....

Does anyone know the title of this TV series/drama? I really want to know it. Please help...
