Zhan Zhao is a fictional character, although Bao Zheng is not.

Erm, in the drama serials that i watched about Justice Bao, they are a pair of bodyguards dressed in red uniform and another pair of bodayguards dressed in back uniforms, could anyone explain more about them? If they are fiction, how many bodyguards did Justice Bao have had at that point of time? Also who was his advisor(s)?

I guess you'd better read the novel," san xia wu yi'" or " qi xia wu yi". 三侠五义 或者 七 侠五义. the TV series or movies are originally from it. I can't remember details now because I read it when I was grade 5. Zhanzhao is the most brave and smart hero in my impression.

Zunjing de China History Forum members,

Hmm, there seems to be no historical records of Zhan Zhao. He was only the most valiant hero in novels and TV Series of the same titles. I have recently seen a new drama called “Shao Nian Bao Qing Tian.” It was literally translated as Bao Zheng in his younger years. In this series, Zhan Zhao was portrayed as a monk with very high martial art skills. I am just wondering if other members have seen this series yet. Is this series more historically accurate than the original novels consisting of the character Zhan Zhao?

Xie Xie,

Yah, i watched that. But i watch it because of how the cases are solved. There are logics, observations and human behaviour and cultural behaviour in solving cases. The cases are solved these ways and I have alot to learn from them.

Hi there :) yeapz there are a lot of characters in the Justice Bao serials. The 4 people you are talking about are always mentioned in pairs. Zhang Long and Zhao Hu, Wang Chao and Ma Han. Everytime you hear Justice Bao asking people to get out the execution tools, these dudes would be the ones carrying the stuff in i think.

Zhan Zhao is one of the bodyguards for Justice Bao and another one i think is named Bai Yu Tang. They are nicknamed Yu Mao(Royal Cat) and Jing Mao Shu(Something fur mouse).

The advisor is very famous also, his name is Gong Sun Ce, who as his name implies is quite witty and has a lot of solutions on solving cases.

Hope i managed to provide some bits of information for you pal

Zunjing de Shawn Xian Sheng,

Yeah, I am really fond with “Shao Nian Bao Qing Tian” since these series did indeed offer a different prospective in case solving than the original Taiwanese series. In addition, some of the cases were much more interesting and placed in a more delicate situation. It was more intense to see the gang investigating with a deadline of only a few days. I surmise the main reason why I prefer this series over the original ones is because this series had much more of a Wuxia type of case solving rather than the strict by the book cases of the old “Judge Bao” series. In this series, you can really see how the relationships among each character were built. In the older version, all the relationships were already well-established.

Hmm, does anyone share the same viewpoint?

Zunjing de Kenshinng,

There were not really that many characters in the Judge Bao series. There were Judge Bao, Gongsun Ce, Zhan Zhao, and four other guards, which is only seven characters.

Hmm, other than what you have already mentioned regarding the four guards mentioned in pairs, I would like to add that I believe these four guards were probably the best guards under Judge Bao. Even though Zhan Zhao was also one of the guards, his rank was certainly the highest among the guards since he had the best martial art skills. Wang Chao and Ma Han always wear a black costume, while Zhang Long and Zhao Hu would always wear a red costume.

Yes, Zhan Zhao was nicknamed Yu Mao (Royal Cat), while his rival, Bai Yu Tang, also had the nickname Jing Mao Shu (white fur rat). However, I believe Bai Yu Tang was never one of Judge Bao’s bodyguards as he did not really trust the current government even with a righteous minister like Judge Bao.
