I'll just list those I think turned the course of history.
01. The failed siege of Luo Yang. This was the real beginning of the Fragmentation.
02. Guan Du. This put the top favourite Yuan Shao out of the running and secured Cao Cao as the rising contender.
03. Chi Bi. Marked the end of Cao Cao's expansion southwards.
04. The failed siege of Xiang Yang by Guan Yu. An audacious attack by Guan Yu which would have changed history if it had succeeded.

No, that's not true according to true history.Guandu was indeed a very brilliant battle. It was said that Cao Cao 's smaller army of 70,000 defeated 700,000 troops by Yuan Shao
Maybe that's true according to Sanguo Yanyi (the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms).
According to Sanguo Zhi (the formal history of 3 Kingdom period), it's about 3,000 vs 10,000. But it was still a brilliant and desisive battle.

There still would have been a Chi Bi or a simular Chi Bi. Yuan Shao was also ambitious and if he defeated Cao Cao and took his lands. He too would have laid his eyes on the south.
(below is just my comments)
i don think that yuan shao will be able to defeat cao cao. because cao cao is more of a capable man than yuan shao. cao cao too has more talents on his side. eg Guo Jia). yuan shao was an indecisive man. i remember when cao cao was with yuan shao, he advice yuan shao to invade a particular place. ( i forgot where is the name of the place) yuan shao because of some personal reasons ( i don remember what were the reasons) reject his idea and cao cao was very dissapointed. Even if yuan shao was able to defeat cao cao, his resources will drained out. he need a long time to recupurate. The sun family from the south will seize opportunity and invade yuan shao. Sun ce was also an ambitious man.
thanks

For battle of Guandu, it is very predictable that Cao cao would win. Gua jia tell cao cao before the battle even began that Yuan shao will never beat him. Yuan shao arrogant and refuses listen to his officer advice causes his downfall just like xiang yu.
