My personal View about Yun - 3 months off from CHF

As may well know, Yun will be leaving Singapore to do his PHD in Berkeley. We are going to have a farewell party for him. As he was busied with his Masters Thesis, he was away from CHF for 3 months. I am not sure if he will ever come back to Singapore, as he once informed me that if he cannot get a job in Singapore after his PHD in US, he will stay permanently in the US to teach chinese history.
I have to say the lack of Yun in CHF for the past 3 months is quite different. CHF feels quite different without Yun around, an important potent support force for academic information/source/advice. CHF would clearly be stronger and more powerful with him around.
Yun is the longest serving staff in CHF ever since CHF was founded 3 years ago. If I were to regard myself as the "founding emperor" of a dynasty, then clearly Yun is just like an important Prime Minister for CHF dynasty. To me, I compare him to famous "advisor" historical figures such as Zhang Liang of Han Dynasty (advising Liu Bang), Zhugeliang of Shu-han kingdom during 3 kingdom period, Wei Zhen of Tang dynasty (advising Li Shimin), Liu Bowen of Ming dynasty (advising Zhu Yuanzhang) etc. Not only does he provides good and sound advice, he was responsible for raising much of the quality of posting in the forum, establishing many policy and exam system. CHF would not have been what it's like if Yun is not around.
Clearly, Yun's departure from CHF 3 months ago makes me feel quite uneasy. But I do hope that after his thesis is over, he will come back to CHF again.
There are a number of other "important" members who have taken leave from CHF such as Snowybeagle, Urofpersia, Liang Jieming... I really miss them in CHF.

Yun most definitely raised the level of the discussions and provided much good info when asked.
I wish him good luck in his quest to get his PHD.

Congrats to Yun; if it wasn't due to personal reason earlier (in the early 80's); I would have complete my studies in both Philosophy & History already. I believe with such zeal for history bug as Yun has exhibited, he will certainly be a great academian for Chinese history not only for CHF but for all of us who enjoy learning history as well.
