Greetings,

Wondering if any of you are aware of DBA online. It's based on the v. popular miniatures tactical battle ruleset.

Although somewhat abstract (and no graphics feast, to be sure) it is in fact an excellent game (for the thinking (wo)man), and you can play people from all around the world. Also, there is a good community that supports tournaments and campaigns - right now my Tang army is wiping out all opposition!

The armies range from 3000 BC to 1500 AD.

You can download the basic game for free:

But to get the most out of it, you do need to subscribe.

Very interesting army list. Fairly good selection of Chinese armies too, which is unusual but the Artillery portions of Chinese armies are under represented a little. :-) Also no chukonus too! hehehe but all in all not bad at all!

I was under the impression that artillery was not used in set-piece battles until the Song... and both the Song and Ming have two elements of Artillery - the max! (in the new lists, san guo armies have artullery, though).

I like the Song (for me they represent perhaps THE highpoint of China), but due to their having lost much of the area used for horse-breeding, they are somewhat short on cavalry and light horse (they have good solid infantry though, and plenty of bows/crossbows).

Hardly. The Han for example, used wheeled artillery in the field regularly.
