Chinese Dictionary is a necessary tool to learning the chinese language. I've done some surfing on the internet and below are the recommended Online Dictionary for learning chinese language. They are also good tools for translation.


English-based Dictionary

Info: By far one of the best chinese dictionary online. You can input english, pinyin or chinese character and output the meaning either in chinese or english. You can also input the chinese character by writing it on the site. Also includes many example sentences for learning chinese language. Generally good dictionary for english-speakers who are learning chinese language.

Info: Contains English-Chinese (E-C) and Chinese-English (C-E) online dictionary. For E-C dictionary, it can output in GB or Big5. For C-E Dictionary, one can input in pinyin, big5, GB or English. This is a very good online dictionary for quickly checking the meaning and the pinyin for a new chinese character. Certain difficult characters can be found in this dictionary.

Included are also information such as historical origin, example of phrases used for the chinese character etc. For those surfing the net, this is a quick way to check up on a new character, its meaning and pinyin etc. One can cut and paste the character onto the input box.

One only need to input the technical term and it will output the equivalent term in english or chinese. A good tool used for technical translation.

regret now not having enjoyed my Chinese more at the limited
overseas Chinese Schools,

A great dictionary that I know of is MDBG free online Chinese-English Dictionary. This is without a doubt the most comprehensive online dictionary I am aware of. The dictionary accepts pinyin, characters and English. It is also incredibly easy to use and the entries are growing everyday. Has a lot of slang as well. I use it for both work and study. I encourage everyone to check it out!

I like Kingsoft, but more for their dictionary software than their online dictionary. And the Taiwanese idiom website is good as well, but it is in traditional characters and takes a long time for me to read as a result.

Xie xie = Thank you, but nothing found.Is there anyother website in english?.Everytime I opened one of those it asked if I wanted to download a pack,so I could read it.

Most of websites quoted here required the font "simplified Chinese" installed.
That makes impossible in many public libraries in Hartford, Connecticut, USA.
Why don't the Webmasters learn to use Unicode font instead?

Besides, one I copy and paste a character in my text editor, it does not work.
It pase the link instead.

Do anyone give me a dictionary that does not required any fonts added,

I would recommend you try www.nciku.com
There are two options for the language, Chinese and English.
You can search a word by entering pinyin, Chinese characters or English. If you have the character but don’t know how to input it in the search bar, you can use the handwriting recognition tool. It is very accurate! You can check for yourself.
My computer already had a Chinese font installed when I first visited www.nciku.com , so I didn’t get any message asking me to download anything. I don’t know if that is the reason I didn’t get any messages of that kind.
If you do, that pack is completely harmless it will enable your computer to recognize Chinese text, therefore making it easy for you to use Chinese dictionaries.
You can also try to set you Internet Explore to the font called Simsun it is a unicode font... not the best one… but hey, maybe that will do the trick.
