Hi there Site Managers
I was wondering . . . . would it not make sense to have a separate Zhou Dynasty or Shang Dynasty section instead of grouping everything under ""Pre-Qin and Qin"? :g:
May you enjoy good health, harmony and happiness.

Funny guy ;)

It just doesn't seem right that more than 1500 years of Chinese history is combined under one heading. But, that's just me :)

Xiangyu has a point, however, i just think the groupings should be more like

Pre-Imperial(neolithic to Warring States)
Qin/Han
Three Kingdoms
Age of fragmentation

and so forth and so on

but whats done is done, theres nothing bad about how the forum is currently set up.

Well guys, when we opened up the Historical Period sections, we had hardly any threads on anything before the Qin, so we weren't confident about a Shang or Zhou section working out. Nor were we sure that Warring States or Qin could be sufficient on their own, so we grouped them together. But if the amount of discussion on pre-Qin history reaches a high enough level, we can consider changing the present format.

Hi Yun

That's what I figured. Although I have seen many posts about the Qin Dynasty, I haven't seen an abundance of Western Zhou/Chunqiu or Shang era posts. There are 'plenty' of records about that period in existence, but it seems not too many people are interested in it besides me. :cry^: B)

That's fine :)

Well Bao Pu, the Chunqiu and Warring States is Sephodwyrm's favourite period, and he's currently translating a Chinese-language book about it here: http://www.chinahist...topic=1724&st=0

Too bad it's classified under 'CHF articles', because the translation work is so extensive. I was very tempted to put it in the Pre-Qin section.

Well.. the forum list would be too big if we consider having forum for each individual dynasty.. besides there aren't many post on Zhou dynasty..

I think the suggestion of Pre-Imperial and Qin/Han is good..but I think the current layout is fine..for pre-Qin and Qin

I don't consider Shang a "dynasty".

While Xia is obscure, probably a Sino-Tibetan tribe in Shanxi, Shang is likely a Tungusic or Koreic tribe in eastern Henan.

And Zhou was perhaps a Qiang-ized Turkic tribe from Shaanxi.
