Thanks for your thoughts. I have been reading a book by a British historian / author John Man titled Genghis Khan. Have you read this book? Do you think it has any historical value or is it a bit bordering fictional based on some vague historic events? I think its an interesting book to read nevertheless, there is a very controversial theory that he puts forward about where Chinghis's ashes may really lie.

I haven't read the book, but I would be interested to hear where he believes Ghengiz Kha is buried.

This could be purely fictional. But the book puts forward a story based on contacts with locals in the Ningxia HAR. Some insisted he passed away near the Liupan Mountains (the bottom end of Ningxia HAR) Because the weather in August was so hot, his body decomposed so quickly that there was no choice but to bury him there but his possession were to be taken back to Mongolia.

The author of the book did not support this story.

The cinematography looks fantastic but I wasn't too sure about the the Mongols wielding the twin swords. I didnt see any horseback archery in the film and the Mongols were famous and feared for their amazing archery skill on horseback. Im not really sure but I think the twin swords on horseback thing may be in there just to look cool. I am pretty sure that the Mongolian soldiers did not fight like that. Of course I could be wrong. Can anyone confirm?

Twin swords on horseback sounds a little implausible. Mounted archery and mounted shooting for that matter are possible because they do not require the horseman to overcome any inertia. Mounted swordsmanship is a completely different story.

yeah, that is what I figured also. Sounds like the battles will probably be more stylistic then realistic(which isnt a bad thing). I just wish that there was more horse archery in the movie opposed to sword fighting. Genghis Khan's army afterall was especially known for their excellent horse archery skills as well as horse riding and maneuvering skills

Don't forget that this movie is produced in three parts. Therefore, this first part might not be representative of the art of war that we are all waiting for, let's wait for the second part, where we should see more fighting, and may be more special effects to make it spectacular...

Is it going to be a trilogy? I wasn't aware of that.

I am still waiting for it to come out to cinemas in Australia. I suspect i shall have to wait for the DVD. Sadly, our independent cinema scene is pretty poor.

Where did you guys hear it was going to be a trilogy? I only heard about this one movie. Can you post any news articles or anything regarding the film being a trilogy? I really hope it is because that would be just great. The first movie already looks great.

Dude, it's out in Australia in Greater Union. I just watched it a few hours ago with a friend. As expected, 2/3 of the seats were empty. But those that were inside seems to have enjoyed it. The funny part was, when we walked out when the movie finished, i got some funny stares...

The movie's ok, a little better than I expected. When I saw the trailer, I was let down by the action scenes, expecially the part with the twin swords. But action scenes in the movie was minimal, which in the this case was a good thing. A surprise was Yesugei, played by Ba Sen from China, the dude that played Temujin in the Chinese series.

If you know Chinese, check out the Chinese-made series movie "Gengis Khan" 成吉思汗. It's a Chinese-made series (soap opera) closely followed real history but with modern dramatic feel. It's made in 2002 with 30 episodes, starred Mongolian ethnic actor Ba Shen 巴森. It's an awsome spectacle to watch and the acting, the plot are so engaging!

meh I just saw this movie, its an awesome movie, but the Russian dubbing over the actors' voices is really pissing me off.
