By the way, I thought the performance on Sun Honglei was really a show stealer. He appears, however, to have only done Chinese language films, before this. Does anyone know anything more about him? Does he speak English? When are we going to see him on the Western cinema scene?

Sinoid you miss the main point. Why Mongolians don't like the movie, it is distortion of historical texts. That director distorted "The Secret History of Mongols" in his movie .

Japanese acto Tadanobu Asano's play in Chinggis Khaan's role was actually very good, almost as same as I imagine Chingis khaan.
Chinese actor Sun Honglei's play in Jamukha's role was very good. "Made by foreigner" is not an issue at all.

The movie director's way of distortion of "The Secret History of Mongols" is main reason Mongolians disliked the movie.

So can you help me out and explain what were the main distortions within the movie. What was it that you feel was most likely inaccurate and offensive?

I saw the bluray version of this movie some time ago. The panoramic screens, especially the ones involving grass moving in the wind or snow, look great in HD.

I enjoyed the movie, particularly the part covering Temujin's early years. When he reached maturity however I couldn't help but feel that although well executed, everything seemed to happen on a much smaller scale than expected. I'm not well-read on the topic so I can't say what is more historically correct, but I remember reading a novel about Temujin's rise to power where his war with Jamukha was portrayed like it was fought between two great warlords commanding vast hosts whose numbers filled plains and valleys, whereas in the movie their conflict was so small-scale it seemed more like a scuffle between two local strongmen with but few hundred men at their disposal.

I agree. Silly me though, as I didn't think he was Chinese.
May you enjoy good health, harmony and happiness.

For any who are interested an author, who spent time with the Mongol people wrote some books on Genhis. I have read the first two and they were really fun and for fiction much closer to history. This is the first book, I recommend for them for fun.
