In my opinion, any one who learns English shall read Doc. Gu Hongming (辜鸿铭)'s the Spirit of the Chinese People. Despite his ultra-conservative ideas, his language skill is astonishingly good! Sun Yat-sen, Lin Yutang and etc. admire his mastery of English. He's a multilingual and talented literary figure. His smart wit, eloquence his compassion and numerous anecdotes all impress you deeply. If he cannot win your respect or worship, he can win your admiration at least. Anyone is welcome to discuss this topic! :clapping:

You could visit http://www.oklink.ne...09/0905/004.htm to read the Spirit of the Chinese People written by Mr. Gu. Of course, you may download his works in English at the Internet Archives.
