Please post the entire chinese writing (you can scan it if necessary). Perhaps, we can help you decipher the meaning and definition.

Make sure you know the procedure for drawing the Guanyin sticks


Make a wish or ask Guanyin for something in your heart, then shake the sticks. A stick will fall out.


Use the red cups to check whether this is the stick that Guanyin has chosen for you. Simply throw the red cups onto the floor 3 times.


You need to have 3 times of "sacred cups" (one facing up and one facing down) in order to make sure this is the right stick. If both cups are facing up or if both cups are facing down, that means the stick is not counted as the right one. You would need to re-shake the sticks again.

I'll do some translation and explanation here. Note that they are in classical chinese.

1st Stick - In ancient times, Zhong Li became a deity - Upper Stick

I had a set of Chi Chi sticks long ago that I picked up at an resell shop, but they disappeared many years ago. I have never been able to find any since.

I had forgotten about them until this thread and went to look for some info on them. I found a pseudo divination site and when you clicked on a stick you would get a "random" daily reading. Just for fun, I kept trying to get the #1 stick to come up in the reading, but then I noticed after many times of repeating this not once did a number come up higher then 45, yet there are supposed to be 70 some sticks. Not surprising, I am not sold on computerized fortune telling anything.

I did also come across info that stated that using the Chi Chi sticks was really just another way of getting an I Ching reading instead of using the three coin method.

"Kau Cim" is more likely to be the cantonese word for the Mandarin term "Chou Qian" (stick drawing).

The "Chinese fortune sticks" are known in English as 'Chi-Chi' sticks, probably because the process of shaking the sticks in bamboo tube causes a sound of "Chi-Chi". In chinese, the stick is known as "Qian 签" (Mandarin) or "Cim" (Cantonese) or simply "Kau Sim Sticks" (English). The bamboo tube that holds the sticks are known as 'Qian Tong 签筒' (Mandarin) or "Cim Bucket" (English)

For your question about "silk" and "domestic animals", it's reflected as follow:

田蚕→利 (farming or Silk-making/career - good)
六畜→慎吉 (domestic animals - be warned)

That means to say if you're involved in faming or industry (田蚕), you should be profitable. Liu Xu 六畜 refers to 6 domestic animals, i.e. horse, ox, goat, pig, dog and chicken. These are generally poultry. It says that if you're involved in poultry-rearing, then you need to be cautious.

For your question about 'travelers" and "missing", it's reflected as follow:

行人→未回 (Travelers - Not return)
寻人→有信 (searching people - would receive letter/message)

It means that if you're doing some traveling, you're not likely to return. If you're searching for someone (missing), you will receive message/letter/news.

The no.12 stick is as follow (I've done the translation):





十二签、上签寅宫：【武吉遇师】 否去泰来咫尺间，暂交君子出于山；若逢虎兔佳音信，立志忙中事即闲。

12 stick, Upper stick: [Wuji met the master] Goods and Bads are only within short distance. You should temporarily befriend gentlemens from the mountain (i.e. not from the city, but from rural/nature side); If he brings you good news, it will relieve your concerns and makes you more relaxed.

诗意：此卦祸中有福之象。凡事先凶后吉也。（击有作系。）

Meaning: This stick means that in times of misfortune, there would be signs of fortune. All things will be difficult and then easy later on.

解曰：换麻得丝。击人双足。要见分明。因灾得福。

Explanation: Change the Hemp in order to obtain silk. Use too feet to strike. One needs to see the result. Only with misfortune will you have fortune.

故事：(见于封神榜)武吉本是樵夫。姜子牙钓于磻溪。二人相遇。见子牙用直钩钓鱼大笑。子牙看武吉气息断曰。今日入城打死人。武吉怒别。担柴入城。误触王 相致死。文王画地为牢。武吉后被暂释。照顾老母至秋后正法。老母令其找姜子牙求救。太公收其为徒。授兵法。又令其挖坑施咒破解先天数。秋后不见武吉伏刑。 文王演先天数。以为武吉已畏罪自杀。后文王碰见武吉。武吉引文王见姜太公。受封武德将军。师徒二人为文王效力。

Story: Wuji was once a woodsman. He encountered Jiang Ziya (one of the advisor to King Wen of Zhou) and saw him fishing with a straight hook. Jiang Ziya saw his face and deduced that he is going to encounter misfortune (i.e. if he entered the city, he will killed someone). Wuji was quite angry about this. Nevertheless, he still entered the city. Unfortunately, he resulted in the death of Wang Xiang and King Wen of Zhou decided to imprison Wuji. Later, Wuji was released and he went back to take care of his mother till Autumn. His mother later asked him to seek help from Jiang Ziya. Jiang Ziya decided to take Wu Ji as disciples and ordered the crush the spell/curse on Wuji. After Autumn, Wuji was no longer in the prison and King Wen of Zhou thought Wuji had committed suicide. However, later King Wen of Zhou met Wuji. Wuji introduced King Wen of Zhou to Jiang Ziya and was later conferred the title of General Wude. Together with Jiang Ziya, Wuji served under King Wen of Zhou.

Yes, these divinition are merely for 'fun'. Do not take it too seriously. It depends on how you interpret it. I'm not a specialist in divinition.

If you're asking about 'love and relationship', the #12 sticks indicated that you will encounter difficulty first and then bliss/happiness later. It says that you should maintain some form of distance from your boyfriend temporarily to avoid conflicts. But later on, good news will come and relieve you from burden. It will bring you happiness.

So, my guess is that give yourself a bit of time and some distance from your boyfriend, if you ever come into conflict with him. But later on, good fortune will come. I'm not too sure about "changing hemp with silk". Could it mean changing a boyfriend for a better one? "Changing hemp with silk" could also mean that your current boyfriend might change to be better. It could also mean "the current relationship might change to be better". You never know. It depends on different way of interpretation. Only time will tell. So, give yourself a bit of time.

If you're not encountering any difficulties, then simply ignore this stick.
