Hello all,

I made an imitation Dizi out of PVC plumbing pipe. It's done, it does make noise, but it's not tuned yet. However, the measurements I used are for a Western flute and my fake Dizi doesn't look quite right regarding placement of all the finger holes etc. I don't have a real Dizi to measure from, nor do I know the method used for calculating hole placement in a Dizi. If you do, please let me know!

I'd like to make another one, but with more correct measurements. If you have a Dizi, could you kindly measure it for me? The measurements I need are shown in the drawing. Please measure from the "0" end, preferably in centimetres - eg. 0 to 1 = 20cm., 2 = 40.5cm., 3 = 11cm. etc. Also, please let me know what key your Dizi is in. It's probably written next to Hole #5 (the 3rd finger hole).

Thanks very much for your patience!

Edit -
In some Dizi, Holes #1 and #2 might be (in a line or side by side) on the underneath ie. below the row of finger holes and out of sight. In that case, please measure from #0 to #3. You don't have to measure from hole to hole. If you are using a tape measure, hook it on the END, stretch the tape to the TOP and read off the measurements. Thanks!

Oh no! It's really quite easy and there's lots of information on the internet. Not for a Dizi though, it's a bit different from Western flutes. I don't really know how to play a flute although I had a few now forgotten lessons when I was a kid in the last century :). We'll see if cats and dogs start howling in chorus when I play!
