I am fascinated by the pictures and the comments about different Mongol groups. Can someone please explain what different groups of Mongols there are, and what are the historical or current geographical distributions of these people?

Yes, I agree it's obvious the Mongols inherited some genes along the way and brought them back home. By that I mean with the blond hair and blue/ Green eyes. No offense meant to you.

Yes I agree that the northern steppe Mongols inherit some genes such as blue/green eyeas from non-Mongoloid people along the way since they have been living side by side with them for long period in the northern steppes. Offspring of mixed couples can both carry recessive genes that may reappear in later generations resulting in Asian facial features with blond hair/blue eyes. Nothing real special about these steppes of people, we find them now adays in other mixed southern Mongoloid/Caucasoid in southeast Asia or American of both multiple generations European/African mix resulting in African features with lighter hair and blue/green eyes.

Did the Mongols in the 13th century have the same mix of genes we see in the population today? Did some of those who rode with Ghengiz Khan have blonde hair and green eyes?

If not, when was this gene pool assimilated?

The Mongols look nice, really. I thought they have narrow eyelids? They are essentially different from Chinese, definitely!

We should be more careful about drawing a conclusion based on a collection of pictures from one or two people, however beautiful they are. Mongolians have been mixing with other peoples just like everyone else from other part of world. If one takes a look at of all the portraits of Yuan emperors, he would be likely to assert that all mongolians look a lot like Chinese. For me, I do not see the difference between those Yuan emperors and Northern Chinese. I believe more studies are needed to make any rational statement.

lol .... if the posted photos are true representation of Outer Mongolia's population then it's safe to assume Mongolians are replaced by non-Mongolic Central Asian Turkic peoples. This only means modern day northern Han-Chinese & Koreans are only direct lines of proto-Mongols.

Just because we don't look Chinese doesn't mean that we are not Mongols. Not everybody has to look like Chinese or Korean. We are not East Asians we are Central Asians that's why we look different. First you have to learn Central Asia and its history then make a conclusion.

Sorry you are making the same conclusion based on a collection of pictures from Yuan dynasty.

That's correct.
Mongolians are largely resemble Central Asians than looking Chinese or Koreans.
The recent genetic studies prove Koreans are far from Mongolian and Chinese.

We just share some common North Asian physical features.
