A star-studded cast including Kung Fu star Donnie Yen Chi-Tan attended the world premiere of the Hong Kong martial arts biopic 'Ip Man' in the Exhibition Theater in Beijing Wednesday night.
The production team, including director Wilson Yip, producer Raymond Wong, and action director Sammo Hung, star Lynn Hung and Siu-Wong Fan were all in attendance.
Many other big name celebrities from the mainland and Taiwan also showed up to give their congratulations.
The release date of the film has been pushed up to Dec. 12. Reportedly, many mainland cinemas will start screening for selected audiences on Thursday.
'Ip Man' is adapted from the life story of Ip Man, the grand master of the Wing Chun style of kung fu and teacher of legendary kung fu superstar Bruce Lee. This movie will be the first important record of the master's life.

I like Donnie Yen and all, but I hope he is not playing Ip Man. He looks nothing like him.
Sorry to burst your bubble but yeahh he is the one playing Ip Man. The actions look deft though.

In reality Wing chun kungfu doesnt look that fanciful I guess.

That's like getting a young Arnold Schwarzenegger to do a bio pic on Adrien Brody. The trailer does look pretty good, though. I love the way he peppers them with lots of center line strikes to the abdomen.Sorry to burst your bubble but yeahh he is the one playing Ip Man. The actions look deft though.

Yeah! i know what you mean, movies always tend to sensationalize moves of kungfu, it comes from the point of view of the martial arts director as he aims to adapt to the tastes of the viewers i guess.

I was thinking that too! but i guess there aren't a lot of action superstars nowadays in HK, so they need to bring out an experienced actor for that. The center line strikes part was my favourite for the trailer too!

Look, apart from Donny Yen, who else is more suitable? Jackie Chen? Jet Li?

I found it a very boring and poor "remake" of some traditional themes in Chinese martial arts movies, such as the invincible Master who fights against foreign invaders, the family drama and so on. Pus I found it so soaked of Chinese anti-Japanese propaganda I couldn't believe people didn't actually notice it!!
And one last thing: about the amazing choreographies, I've recently watched some old 70s kung fu movies such as The 36th Chamber of Shaolin or Dirty Ho, and to be honest I think THOSE were great choreographies... I don't think this film does nothing really special or new with Kung Fu, I've seen much better.
I really can't understand the hype around this one.

True, some of the old movies are better, but lately I have not seen much that is really worth mentioning. As for the anti japanese, the scene was when Japan invaded China, so I don't think that they would have been greeted with open arms.
If you have any other good titles, I would really like to know.
Have a great day everyone
