1927 - Republic of China claims back Jiujiang(九江) after the British withdrew.

1935 - Red Army captured the City of Zunyi(遵义) in the Chinese Civil War.

1938 - New Fourth Army Incident (新四軍事件) or the Wannan Incident.

1950 - The U.K. changed recognition from Republic of China(ROC) to the People's Republic of China(PRC) as the goverment of China

1949 Japanese war criminal Yoshijiro Umezu dies in prison. Umezu was a major player in the invasion of China.

1966, Loretta Lee, [Lee Lai Chan], actress.

1918——中國護法戰爭:岑春煊在廣州設立西南各省聯合會,自任議和總代表,排斥孫中山。Constitutional Protection Movement: Cen Chunxuan establishes the Governing Committee of the Southwestern Provinces in Canton/Guangzhou and appoints himself as its Chief Negotiator with the Beiyang Government, marginalizing Sun Yat-sen's Canton Military Government. 1916——中國護國運動:蔡鍔率領護國軍開始討伐袁世凱。Constitutional Protection Movement: Cài È led his army to attack Emperor Yuán Shìkǎi.
1923——楊希閔、劉震寰驅逐陳炯明,佔領廣州,歡迎孫中山重掌大元帥。Yang Xīmĭn and Liú Zhènhuán expel Chen Jiongming from Canton and welcome back Sun Yat-sen as commander in chief of the Canton Military Government.
1934——中華民國政府軍攻佔福州,十九路軍創建的福建人民政府宣告失敗。ROC Army captures Fuzhou, crushing the People's Government established by the rebellious 19th Route Army.
1987——中國共產黨總書記胡耀邦因反對資產階級自由化不力而被迫辭職,趙紫陽接任總書記。General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, Hú Yàobāng, is forced to step down by Deng Xiaoping for his tolerance of and perhaps his empathetic attitude towards China's liberal intelligentsia, who were pushing for more political freedom and reform. Zhào Zǐyáng took over his position.

AD 1931——中國共產黨領導的左翼作家聯盟中五位作家柔石、李求實、殷夫、胡也頻、馮鏗在中國國民黨的大搜捕中在上海被捕。Five members of the CCP supported Left Wing Writers League, Róu Shí, Lǐ Qiúshí, Yin Fū, Hú Yěpín, and Féng Kēng, were arrested by the KMT in Shanghai.
1933——中華蘇維埃共和國政府領導人毛澤東、朱德發表《為反對日本帝國主義侵入華北,願在三個條件下與全國各軍隊共同抗日宣言》Máo Zédōng and Zhū Dé of the Chinese Soviet Republic published "Declaration of Opposing the Japanese imperialists invading North China, willing to join the fight against Japan with the rest of Chinese armies under three conditions."

I'm actually surprised (and a little skeptical) that such an early event could be dated so precisely. Does anyone have details about how this dating was done?
The dead have passed beyond our power to honour or dishonour them, but not beyond our ability to try and understand.

Yes, that was all I could find myself. So the question is, how was it established that 正月甲子 corresponds to 17 January, 154 BC?
The dead have passed beyond our power to honour or dishonour them, but not beyond our ability to try and understand.
