what do u think of it?

the feeling of it is proud like a national anthem should be. i'm surprised there isn't that traditional "chinese" feel to the music because when i heard the tune without the words, i wondered if it was an american tune or something like that.

but don't u think whoever wrote the lyrics could've done more than (only) include references to war? it would've been nice to hear something about else, especially what life could be like during peace.

and i'm surprised that the lyrics contain no praiseful mention of communist ideology or mao.

and it is a bit short, huh? is there more to the lyrics?

i don't know if this is an acceptable comparison, (but just because both china is and the soviet union was large communist countries) i think the hymn of the soviet union sounds impressive for any national anthem. u can hear/feel the vibrancy in the words and the words actually talk about what's it like to live in a bright, new era(well, sorta) and also contains references to commnism and lenin. it adds for a propagandic tone, which i'm sure any govt. would want.

The March of the Volunteers is a typical communist song: a large orchestral band accompanied with a choir of men fiercely chanting out the nation's ideals. Also many national anthems are about war, irrespective if they are communist or not. For example the French national anthem is about going to war: http://en.wikipedia....national_anthem God Save the Queen, the British national anthem, has a bellicose lyric:

O Lord, our God, arise,
Scatter her enemies,
And make them fall.
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all.

The Chinese and Soviet anthem features war themes. I think Germany has one of the most peaceful anthems (ironic considering its baleful history):
Unity and justice and freedom
For the German fatherland!
For these let us all strive
Brotherly with heart and hand!
Unity and justice and freedom
Are the pledge of fortune;
|: Flourish in this fortune's blessing,
Flourish, German fatherland. :|
