I'm asking, because none of the museums in Australia (as far as I know) have a single hanfu for exhibition. It seems that they're happy to settle for the 18th Century qipao and leave it at that...which is unfortunate.
It's my career plan to get into the museum industry to promote Chinese culture, and this will definitely be a topic that I hope to create an exhibit on someday.

You certainly need to talk to Russell Jack at the Chinese Museum in Bendigo, which has the best collection in Australia.

Museums overseas (i.e. outside Australia) abound in collections of Chinese clothing. For example the Victoria & Albert Museum in London has a large collection, and a summary can be found at V & A Chinese clothing.

Similarly, look at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, whose collection can be accessed at MMA Costume Institute.

Thankyou so much for your advice and for those links, William. :D
Yes, I remember you telling me about a curator friend who works in VIC. I will remember to contact Russell Jack.
This is a great starting point for me, thanks! :)

My pleasure. It also occurs to me that they are a small number of Chinese clothing items in the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.

Btw, we need to introduce you to HappyHistorian, as he is in Sydney too, and I think he is about your age. I caught up with him in Sydney late last year, and took him for some drinks at Tattersalls Club.

The Chinese Museum, 22 Cohen Place, Melbourne has a costume collection on permanent display. Very interesting little museum dedicated to Chinese History in Victoria.

For anyone interested who is in Melbourne from April 17 to September 6 there is an exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria on robes of Imperial China. Called Dressed to Rule the exhibition features some stunning costumes from the Qing Dynasty Imperial court. Here is the link for furthur info.

Here is a link to a page at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney with a picture and description of a Jifu in their collection.
