I was looking up stuff about Chinese animation and happened upon a website talking about the upcoming animated adaptation of Yue's popular Qing era folklore bio The Story of Yue Fei. The colored story boards look pretty good, but I'm not too impressed with the supposed trailer. The animation is horrible and seems like a knock off "The Storm Riders". It has people channeling energy and kicking 'qi' swords at one another. I certainly hope they mixed up one trailer for another. I am also not to pleased that they are not staying faithful to the original source material. New characters have been created in place of older ones and those who die, like the fictitious Prince Liang, survive only to go into hiding. Why mess with a good thing?

Here is the production details:

Yue Fei – Production notes specifications
Yue Fei is the exciting new feature length animation project now underway from Digital Magic in Hong Kong. With over 26 years of experience in all aspects of the film, video and digital imaging industries ‘Yue Fei’ executive producer Percy Fung, is developing a blockbuster production that has many in the industry already filled with excitement.

Yue Fei will incorporate cutting-edge movie animation technologies including:

- 2D cel animation, with digital Ink and Paint

- 3D computer graphic background, with Vicon motion captured 3D animated Virtual Characters

- Softimage XSI 3D software

- Toonz 2D software, with composite on Flame/Smoke Inferno

The entire movie will appear in 2K resolution, with 12-bit colour-depth
The finished product will use Cineon to Master onto 35mm film, and with an additional 1920 X 1080 24P HDTV formats.
