I know Yu was the founder of the Xia Dynasty, but was he also one of the 5 emperors and 3 Sovereigns? I've read from different sources that he was one or the other or both and so I just wanted to grab some opinions and decide based on the majority.

Yu 禹 was indeed the founder of the Xia Dynasty, but he was not one of the "3 Sovereigns and 5 Emperors ". For info regarding "3 Sovereigns and 5 Emperors", please refer to http://www.chinahist...?showtopic=3307.

The 3 Sovereigns are Suiren Clan (燧人氏) [Fire clan], Fuxi Clan (伏羲氏) [Fisherman clan] and Shennong Clan (神农氏) [Farmers clan]

The 5 Emperors are Huangdi (黄帝), Zhuanxu (颛顼), Diku (帝喾), Yao (尧), Shun (舜)

The most famous story about Yu was that he led a campaign to fight against the flood and relieving the problem of flood, earning him much reputation and support to be a leader.
