As far as I know, the use of pendulum in clocks did not appear in ancient China. It was the West who invented pendulum clocks. The Italian inventor/scientist Galileo Galilei was credited with the development of the Isochronism Theory (property) of Pendulum. See http://galileo.rice....s/pendulum.html. In 1656, the Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens designed and invented the Pendulum clock.

By 'dowsing', are you referring to the use of pendulum to search for underground supplies of water or metal ?
Can you be more specific?

Ok. In western traditions, the pendulum is used to search for metals, water or any object and to diagnose or to treat diseases. In ancient Egypt, the pendulum was used for healing and for divinatory purposes. My question is: Was pendulum used in the ancient china for any of these purposes?

Thank you

I've searched many ancient Chinese scientific sources on the internet and sofar, I've yet to find any indication/evidences of the use of pendulums in dowsing in ancient China. My primary guess is that the use of pendulum in dowsing is a science originating from the west. It probably didn't exist in ancient China.

You might want to check up Joseph Needham's Science and Civilization in China to see if he says anything about pendulum in ancient China.

Thank you Zhao Yun, I did not also have information that were indicating that in china the pendulum had been used. My question was to confirm it.
