This is an interesting story, it is sad she has to suffer because of her parents immoral actions. Then again, I was told many times on this site that based on history and the current government in China someone who acts Han is Han and China is a multiethnic nation, no longer a Han dominated empire, so what is the issue? Isn't this girl just Shanghainese?

Participating in the competition reality show “Let’s Go! Oriental Angels” (加油！东方天使) on Dragon TV, Lou Jing (娄婧) recently became popular on the Chinese internet because of the brutal comments and attacks online over her ethnic background and her skin color.

After Lou Jing’s mother was married, she had sex with a black man. The black man returned back to the United States, left Lou Jing’s mother pregnant with her. After Lou Jing was born, mother divorced the original husband, alone raising this special girl. Lou Jing also expressed that the person she loves the most in her whole life is her mother. Because of Lou Jing’s birth story, soon after she and her mother were viciously insulted by the netizens all over the country.

On August 28th, netizens’ debate over Lou Jing’s controversy grew more intensely. A netizen named “朕爱天下” posted a post with the title “Lou Jing’s American Black Father and Shanghai Mother”, attracted over 100,000 views. Many netizens viciously insulted Lou Jing’s mother in the post comments, of course others were outraged by the racist and ignorant comments, fighting back to protect Lou Jing and her mother. Below is the translation of this post and selected comments.

The Chinese Language Netizens are full of very cruel and dirty comments towards just about every topic I could think of. English and other languages too but my overall point is the internet in general is just full of trash. Many online personalities are also quite different from their actual character when you meet or know them in person. Either that or it's their dark and ignorant side expressing.

Sometimes I think some of these folks need a dosage of reality check. This is controversial for sure but for many people out there, "Chinese-ness" of where-ever region, isn't define by skin color and looks per se. It is primarily about family, or strong relationships you could say. Maybe some people need to open their minds and take a trip to Latin America/Caribbean or maybe certain countries in Africa and see for themselves who are the "Chinese" if citizenship, birthplace, residency or blood relations isn't enough.

Sorry.

I just realize my post may have little to do with the actual big issues, like scolding the mother and building prejudice towards black people or other related topics, so just take my comment very lightly or ignore it completely.

I would say she is very pretty compared to the most black girls I see on the street here. She may have a bright future in China as long as she put more personal effort. She is exotic to Chinese people after all.

The thing she will suffer most is that her birth father hasn't stood out yet. I have heard many stories about black guys abandoning their mixed children and disappearing ever in China. It will be a great shame if Chinese people build up such a stereotype about black men.

What I think is that people who want to complain are more likely to go to the internet to do so.

Cowards who think nasty things are more likely to express it anonymously on the net than say it with their true name attached. So I'm not sure if this is how average people really think and they just dare say it on the net or if this is a minority.

I don't know if her story would be much different with the Netzins. There is a famous singer in Japan, Crystal Kay.

Her father is a black American, her mother is a Korean (but she was born in Japan). I have never heard of such nasty treatment of her on Japanese websites.

The situation is different though. Crystal Kay's parents are married, her mother did not cheat on an ex-husband who was Japanese. Still, I think it is also that Japan is just more open, they have had contact with Americans (including blacks) for over 50 years and there have been other mixed race people (including people part black) who have been famous in Japan (usually in sports or entertainment) so Crystal Kay is not shocking.

Actually her story is very interesting because she is a famous Japanese pop singer and she is not Japanese at all, ethnically. She is part African AMerican/Korean. LOL

Yep. That's pretty much the case. Forums like CHF are a rarity on the internet these days.

Of course, people who are more towards the trash end tends to spend an excessive amount of time online anyway, this is especially the case in mainland China. Even when better people spend a lot of time online, they don't direct their free time towards such trash ends.

1) I hope you are right about her future.

2) I think men who do not support their children should be seriously punished, that being said, we don't know the situation. I've been an ex-pat in two Asian nations and I can tell you something about what goes on.

It is not unusual that these men never expect to have long term relationships with these women. Since this woman was married that is likely the case. This man might not have planned to be in China long and may have gotten this woman pregnant and not have known it when he left. She might have had no way to get in touch with him. It is not odd for a foreign men not to leave his real information with these women. So this man might not even know he has a daughter, this woman might not even know the mans real last name.

3) I have no clue of the situation with black men in China, however when I lived in Japan this situation was not uncommon and it involved all races of men, most of whom were not black. Please see the link below. It became such an issue on OKinawa that they made a special orphanage for half Japanese/American children who were abandoned by both parents.

We also all know that Japanese people abandoned many half and pure Japanese children at the end of WWII in Dongbei and only in the last 20 years have some of them went to Japan to try to find their families. There were an estimated 5,000!

Or is it specifically that she is the product of an adulterous relationship, topped with abandonment? Anyway, this isn't her fault. This is true. Knowing the gender demographics in China and Mainland Chinese people like I do, I would imagine many of these highly critical "netizens" have never had a girlfriend let alone a sexual relationship to be in a position to have to make touch decisions like these.

Those "Chinese netizens" are a funny bunch. They rage about stuff like this as if it`s an issue of national interest and blame the mother for cheating, yet they just display blantant racism.
And, of course, they will never get a woman that hot.

As people who like to view ourselves as intellectuals and perhaps logical, through the course of our lives we'll often enter into situations in which we never thought we'd be in ourselves. It is always easy to judge others, while believing we'd never be in the same situation. From my own experience it is better to always keep in mind that it could have been me. I could have been in the same situation.

There is a saying in my culture that can be translated as something like : "Step over a fallen log, but do not step over a fallen person. A person who has fallen can get back up."
Of course in my culture stepping over someone is considered very disrespectful.
