Has anyone ever heard of these old Taiwanese songs? I've heard my mom and grandmother singing them, but they don't remember the history of the songs. I think they are all at least 60 years old, but other than that I couldn't find anything on them. Many other songs from the time are pentatonic but these are not. Are they like 阿里山的姑娘 where it was based off aboriginal songs or are they something else entirely?

They are all very old songs, and no, they're mostly based on Mingnan (or Hakka to some lesser extend) farmers and some early urban life.

阿里山的姑娘 was an orignal aborginal Taiwanese song, however, the lyrics were written by Chang Chieh(張徹) in 1941. He penned the lyric and the song should be known as 高山青. It was a song in the movie 阿里山風雲.

As for the other songs... well, it will take some research.. sorry, might not be able to give you any more information on them yet.
