They're both strong, but which one do you think is stronger?

History wise, would give it to Guan Yu since he did kill an officer but there isn't really enough info to tell.

The book 《三国演义》said that Zhang Fei limbs stronger , but simple-minded,and Guan Yu's Kongfu is better than ZhangFei.

Zhang Fei and Guan Yu weren't sworn brothers in history right?

No they weren't sworn brothers. The slept in the same bed and were as close as brothers.

As for the topic, I would agree with Ma Su and give the edge to Guan Yu due to his killing of Yan Liang.

I agree with ChineseBoy, Zhang Fei was strong, sure, maybe stroger than Guan Yu, but he was simple-minded,while Guan Yu has a brain to back it up remember, it's Guan Yu who gets captured by Wu and beheaded, and Zhang Fei who is beheaded by his own troops in his sleep.
I have never had a fit, but I lost the love of my uncle,

I think calling the novel Zhang Fei (I assume, like chineseboy, you are referring to novel characters) simpleminded is a bit harsh, he was quite clever in the novel, his weaknesses were move those of personality and poor leadership.

Based from the novel Zhang Fei's becomes clever in progress when he attack Shu, Zhuge Liang admitted him also, if not he will not get Yan Yan submission. I would say his personality is a problem because he's a drunkard and beating his own soldiers, that's why he got killed by him self.

I dont agree with the poor leadership, I think he has good leadership when he's not drunk, but will become a problem when he is drunk :nunchucks:
I wonder.... :-?

Zhang Fei's bad temper caused his own downfall. i guess most of us would rather be subordinates of Guan Yu than to be subordinates of Zhang Fei.

Yep. Zhang Fei being reckless and careless, he would most probably ask us to 'chiong' hotheadedly into the battlefield to get killed

Seems a tad unfair. Zhang Fei showed some ability as a tactician and was one of the better Shu generals of the era. Guan Yu as Governor of Jing did lose most of the battles he fought. If it was a case of who as general was less likely to get me killed in battle, I would serve Zhang Fei.It's just Zhang Fei was, according to the sgz, an awful man to serve and it got him killed.

My father used to tell me that Zhang Fei was actually a great calligrapher, and wasn't as simple minded as stated in the novel.

I was also taken aback when I was told that Liu, Guan and Zhang were never sworn brothers... but slept on the same bed from time to time. Maybe the novel sound have been called "Bromance of the Three Kingdoms".

:P
