As I stated before in the past, the concept of mixing different martial arts together to create new ones is nothing new.

This I agree with you.
To name a few arts mixed together:
Choy Lay Fut
Hung Fut (Hung Gar and Fut Gah combination)
Southern Hak Fu (Hung Gar, Black Tiger, Dragon Bagua)
Do Pai (Hung gar, Hop Gar, Choy lay fut, Western boxing)
Ngo Cho(5 arts but I cant remember which ones right now)
Military Hsing I (incorporated turn of the century modern bayonet practices)
Sun style tai chi

Then theres all these mixed martial arts created by over seas Chinese communities in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Mainly under various generic names: "Kun Dao" "Kun Tao" "Kun Taw" "Cun Too" etc. These are like a combination of native arts mixed with various kung fu arts. Like Indonesian silat with some kung fu style(s). Or in the Philippines unarmed Kali mixed with some kung fu style(s).

How come no one ever mentioned a real legendary figure in recent chinese martial arts world?
Lee Shu Wen.
He was rumoured to be one of the best martial artist in the Post Qing / Ming guo era.
And he was famed for killing his opponents with a single strike.
His students went on to be bodyguard of Mao zedong, top nationalist spy and later taiwan top elite guards martial arts instructor
and warlords in china.

Anyone else heard about him? He is really a legend of blood and fist. He died of poisoning by his enemies.
