Henry Kha told me in an email that there are plans to revive the journal early next year. He will likely be the editor. I am looking forward to it.

I previously published two articles before the crash. I am planning one article to submit.

If I remember correctly, the mass email sent out a few months ago stated the CHF newsletter would now be tri-monthly and the Han Lin Journal would be bi-annually. I'm shooting to get a rather lengthy piece included in the first issue of the HLJ.

While I'm thinking about it, what is the maximum limit for submissions? I have a book review that is currently 16 pages long (according to Microsoft Word). This does not count an equal number of pages containing annotated references that could be linked elsewhere.

My articles did not nor will they approach this length in the past. I expect they will announce the criteria and call for articles when they are ready. I would recommend preparing shorter edited versions. Also try and contact Henry directly by PM or e-mail. For e-mail he has responded to me relatively well.

Unfortunately, every section of the paper ties in together. I won't be able to edit it down without affecting it greatly.

I just looked over previous HLJ’s and many of the articles were very short and often sourced with information derived from the web. Many times, they did not have any sources at all. I’m not saying they were not good articles, but I think it is time we stepped our game up. The HLJ is touted as being an "online academic journal" after all. There used to be regular members on here who would publish the lengthy results of their research on various threads. Published journals often consist of long papers. I see no reason why we couldn’t do the same for the HLJ. It is important to point out that the last HLJ was broken up into several parts. This could be done for the next one. If there are several short articles, they could be placed in one part. If there are long articles, one or two could be placed in another part. If there are a lot of notes/references (like mine), they could be placed in a separate part at the end like a book or pinned in the appropriate forum.

Who is Henry Kha? I’m assuming this isn’t a screen name because I don’t recognize it. I’m on a real name basis with very little of the current regulars. Most of the people I knew left after the hacker incident.

Yeah, length shouldn't matter at all for an online journal. I would like HLJ to step up its game as well.


I offered to kaiselin some time ago (this was before the last anniversary edition) to help layout the journal, to typeset it, to make it look like a real journal, to be output to PDF. I'm not a professional, just a hobbyist, but it would be neat to have the journal laid out like an actual journal. Anyway, she didn't seem too interested, but I'm still willing to help with that should HLJ get going again.

The editorial staff worked hard to get good submissions. There was a lot of discussion about the quality issue, I can assure you. Good, well-researched articles are always welcome.

Hello everyone!

My name is Henry Kha, I'm the Chief Editor and I'm in charge of publishing the newsletter and HLJ. We stopped publishing the HLJ a long while ago, as after the hacking crisis editorial staff either suddenly disappeared or became very inactive. I hope to resurrect the HLJ from its hiatus and publish it sometime early next year. I plan to publish the newsletter four times a year and the HLJ two times a year. I need more articles at a academic level from CHF members. If we get enough high quality submissions, then we'll publish the HLJ. I'd like to see the new HLJ conform to a more reputable standard that way it would be worth reading. If you have any questions, comments or ideas let me know.
