I'm curious what is known of Thailand's pre Buddhist religion(s)?
What did Thai's worship?
Before Buddhist religion come to Ancient Thailand. All of them pay respect in The Natural spirit and ancestors spirit(Animism). Today this Tradition remain observe in allmost of thai people. Like "FONT PEE MOD FONT PEE MENG" in Lampang province

I support the above idea as well as I would like to point out one Lao/Thai word :"Mae" (sound like 'mare' without r accent). Mae means mama, mother, woman. This word is widely used in the language combining to others such as "Mae Nam" (the mother of the water = river), "Mae Tub" (the mother of the army = commander in chief of the army), "Mae Lek" (the mother of iron = magnet), "Mae Baan" (the mother of the house = housewife) etc. The word Mae at the end can be used for both genders. This means that the word"Mae" is used throughout since the beginning. I'd like to think further that during the dark ages, witchcraft may have been practiced among Lao/Tai people and is respected until today although Buddhism is their national religion. This seems to go along with those western tribes who worshiped female figurines and dolls in the old days.
