Welcome to the CHF forum, hope you take the exam and stay.

Difficult question. I am inclined to say Einstein's theories relating to relativity, and the fundamental nature of time/space, and matter and energy.

For human or chinese civilisation?

If it is for human achievement, I'd vote for sex! :greetblink:

I can't answer because I don't know the criteria. If I'd had to guess though, excluding high tech modern inventions, I'd probably have to go with paper or papyrus since it was the stuff knowledge and calculations were worked out on and passed around. It was the internet of the ancient times.

I have the fortune of living in the part of the world which has use for toilet paper, but not douches.

Not bad, but probably not considered an invention. It is main characteristic that separates us from all other species, except maybe on a simple level higher mammals like other primates.

Actually I forgot one very crucial invention of the Greeks, math. Without the Greek math (Aslo the great philosophies and knowledge of the Greeks preserved by the Islamic world, Islam would probably not have been so inventive and have great Universities, and Europe would have trouble getting out of the Dark Ages.

And maybe tools for hunting and gathering.

What set us part from animals are complex communication.  So, invention of communication system.  It can be gesture, sound, drawn, or written.

Humans have white around pupil so that can be considered first eye/face gesture communication.
