I would like to learn more about marital garments during the tang dynasty as well as the origin of the "Qua". I am currently looking to buy or rent a traditional wedding attire for my upcoming wedding and I am having trouble deciding whether or not a red colored hanfu is an appropriate garment for brides. I love how elegant and lush hanfu look in comparison to the qua and qipao. I've always wanted one so I figure what would be a better time to wear one but during my tea ceremony on the day of my wedding.
The qua also resembles the attire used during the qing dynasty am I right to assume that it is heavily influenced by Manchurian fashion?
I watch a lot of Chinese television, and the Qua seems to be the popular choice for wedding attire, I rarely ever see hanfu bridal attire being used in series; granted, I know some of these Chinese drama may not follow fashion appropriate for the era the movie is set in.
Also, my mom laughed at me when I told her I wanted to wear a hanfu for the tea ceremony. She told me in her lifetime she has never seen a bride wear a hanfu in place of a qua for a wedding. So my concern is, have brides always worn the "qua" on the day of their wedding, even during the tang dynasty?
Also, while we're on the topic of fashion, can anyone tell me whether or not fashion worn during the Ming dynasty have any relation to the Korean hanbok? A lot of the fashion resembles the Korean hanbok.
