Value of Chinese silver dollar

I am very interested in the historical variations in value of the Chinese silver dollar, particularly from 1911 to 1949.

The particular reason is that Chiang Kai-shek promised 1 million dollars in c1927 for a photo showing Yeung Kui-wan (an early revolutionary) in a more prominent position than Sun Yat-sen [See 'Subsequent Events' in http://en.wikipedia....ki/Yang_Quyun].

I would be extremely grateful if someone would indicate what could be bought with such a sum at that time (1927).
