This society (Singapore Tongde Reading Society 新加坡同德书报社) was founded by Sun Yat Sen in 1911 and was credited for the Chinese education in Singapore, esp. when there was a large illiteracy during early 20th century. It pioneered and helped the founding of Chinese schools in Singapore, particularly Nanyang Girls schools and Chinese high school. It is now 100 years old as of 2011.
I've been to the society before. There was a statue of Sun Yat Sen and a library there to research Republican Chinese history and culture.
The address:
Singapore Tongde Reading Society 新加坡同德书报社
53,Cantonment Road, Singapore 089753
It's worth a visit as the Chinese books in the library are very valuable.

"夫君子之行:靜以修身,儉以養德;非淡泊無以明志,非寧靜無以致遠。" - 諸葛亮
One should seek serenity to cultivate the body, thriftiness to cultivate the morals. If you are not simple and frugal, your ambition will not sparkle. If you are not calm and cool, you will not reach far. - Zhugeliang
