I am currently working on a comic that includes the Manchu/Jurchen peoples. The comic is set roughly in the 1400's in an alternate universe so there will be some leeway. I need reference pictures that deal with their fashion so I may accurately portray the period attire.

What I'm looking for is what Manchu or Jurchen peasants would wear, as well as the shaman. All of the Manchu photos/paintings I've seen show people of high class during the Qing Dynasty. Also I have only seen one picture of a Manchu shaman's outfit from the 1930's. There are however a lot of references of Siberian shaman. Descriptions are welcome as well.

Here is what I have drawn for the shaman:

Any help is always appreciated.

Thank you. It seems that Manchu shaman clothes are very similar to the clothes worn by the shamans of different culture in the surrounding area. The detailed shaman attire along with the many cloth bands would add to the display while the shaman chanted. In contrast the Manchu qipao was simple in design, perhaps reminiscent of horseback riding? The brass mirrors, drums, and cap seem to be the norm in most attires.

I've come across this Russian research paper that documented many accounts during the Qing Dynasty. http://www.orientals...a_pang_1995.pdf

I also came across this blog that has a partial translation of the Nisan Shaman. http://sinoglot.com/manchu/

Any additional discussion would be greatly appreciated.
