I read somewhere that Li Shimin after he ousted his father Li Yuan wanted the Tang Dynasty to follow in the footsteps of the Zhou and re-establish the feudal system of Guo with his sons and ministers becoming feudal lords like in the old days. Unfortunately his Ministers didn't buy into this scheme because they knew their history and actually preferred being Ministers in a centralized bureaucratic state instead of feudal lords in a de-centralized federation like the Zhou dynasty.
Can anyone shed more light on this matter ??

From what I can gather, Li Shimin was a strong advocate of centralization from the moment he took the throne. With the need to consolidate the new regime against hostile internal elements, as well as buffering it against external steppe pressures, I doubt the immediate creation of a feudal federation would have done the dynasty any good. I personally can't see it as something which would have crossed his mind. I could be wrong though; I'd be interested to know what your source for this is.
