I wonder. How does non-Chinese speakers get starting on Chinese? It is a completely new concept for them, getting rid of alphabets. Do they memorise the strokes, or they do it through logic? When is grammar introduced?

I used to study English vocabulary in extreme bursts of memorization for the SAT. I think I hit a record of something like 80-100 words per day for about 4 or 5 days until I got through about 400+ words. I bought premade flashcards for them that had the word on one side and the definition plus antonym on the other so it reinforces memorization. However with Chinese it is different I find myself maxing out at about 25 characters before my brain goes overload. It feels like learning a new set of ABC's every time and I have trouble retaining just about everything from the way the character looks, sounds and ways it is used. If anyone can show me what I'm doing wrong I'd very much appreciate it.

I have the fortune of living in the part of the world which has use for toilet paper, but not douches.

Today I learned that MIT has a website called "Open Course Ware" where they share a wealth of information and resources from the various classes they offer. Chinese courses, naturally, are some such classes.

Here's a good example

I think my greatest difficulty with trying to learn Chinese outside of classrooms was that it was hard to find something structured, but this provides a more convenient way of learning.

Hello !
I'm new, and i don't know where this post will end.

I'm living now in China (Qingdao, Shendong province). I was wondering if you have any tips for me to learn chinese faster. I will be in china for 1 year, and i really want to speak chinese fluenly when i go home to Norway. I like anime! I found "Qin's moon", but it's difficult for me to download it. The network here is not good.

Do you have any other anime series that will help me? I watch sometimes Naruto and Bleach. But it's on japanese. Could someone help me?

Thank you so much.

Malin.

If you have smart phone, you should search for Chinese Learning app on your phone. Learning Chinese on phone or iPad may be a better idea if you have one. For website I recommend http://www.goodchinese.com , you can get a Chinese name, check all the Chinese character stroke order and learn Chinese in 30 days with zero background.
