i heard the mainland version of shediao is actually the closest version to the novel.  i haven't watched it myself though.

i agree that it would be hard to accurately adapt jin yong novels to the big screen simply cuz its impossible to fit in all the details into 1 movie.  having said that i quite liked the 1st xiao ao jiang hu movie by tsui hark.

I liked the second one too. But then they ran out of plot by the third one and it turned into a snorefest.

Nowadays i am too lazy to read wuxia novels. I prefer to watch TV series, but not Jinyong novels based series because I am disgusted at the recently made versions. Totally distorting the story and too much special effects. The actors and actresses were not beautiful either.
It is wrong to make movies based on Jinyong novels in realistic style. The stories are mostly made up and they are romatic. I still prefer the HK versions to the mainland Chinese versions, particularly SheDiao YingXiong Zhuan.

The mainland versions are much more better than those HK ones. TVB's drama series are quite bad compared to the more realistic mainland productions.
The scenes in Inner Mongolia are breathtaking, and I love those the most!

The mainland versions have the edge in scenery, scale, production values, cinematography, authenticity.

The hk versions have the edge in novelty (being the earliest version), acting, nostalgia (some are considered classics).

The taiwan versions...well, they are not worth mentioning. most jin yong fans refuse to acknowlegde they even exist. imo, they should be banned from making any more .

Ren xian qi(任贤齐) has ruined the images of many of my favorite roles of Wu xia, like Yangguo ,Chu liu xiang 楚留香.

I like Taiwan's HSDS in the 90s with Ma JingTao. Although there was many changes i still remember it fondly.

Has TVB not also been banned from Jin Yong remakes too?

yeah, the bosom was blatant, in your face sensuality, shocking.

imo, Ma jing tao's wuji looks really weird, zhao min there was nothing special, but zhou haimei's zhiruo was stunning.

the casting was much improved in the joint mainland production with su youpeng
as wuji but the first part of the story with zhang cuishan and yin susu was altered dramatically for my taste.

about tvb, i'm not sure. anyway, they have moved on to butcher huang yi's novels now.

Well if Jin Yong allows Wong Jing to make tv serials of his books I doubt he would ban TVB.

I can't stand Ma JinTao but in that series his plank of wood and huffing and puffing expression was sufficient for ZWJ i think. Not a fan of Yip Tong either but her acting shone through and gave Zhao Min some sassiness. But i agree Chow Hoi Mei was the star of the show. Gao Yuan Yuan in the mainland version was a close second for my favourite Zhou Zhi Rou.

Although i like Alec Su i thought he was a huge miscast. I could not stop laughing when i saw him first as Zhang Cuisan and then ZWJ. Somehow he was just not the right size.

But Liang Yüsheng's is not too bad, from what I've read so far.
It definitely lacked the depth of historical background compared to Jin Yong's though.

I've read somewhere that Liang's novels usually start out strong with weak endings, while Jin Yong's novels usually start out slow but have great endings.

The "Tian Long Ba Bu" if the one that I got a mistaken opinion on it at the start. I though the story is very boring when I am wathcing the starting part of the show.
The starting of it got me out of my mind trying to figure out what happened. It was the first time I seen/read about it.

But the end it's really worth wathcing. Everything unfolds at the end of the story. It was really interesting, almost everything got a link to the other happenings. I just got to say, "WOW!"

yes, i have seen them before but my friend told me there is only 1 person reading the whole book. so u have a Yang Guo speaking in a female voice, Zhao min in a male voice, Linghu Chong in an elderly voice etc. moreover, they are read in an emotionless manner.
