If you want to say he was a useless ruler.. He actually is not.. He acend the throne when he was young.. but when his mentor die he started to neglect state affairs.. he extort lage amount of money from his people, imposing heavy taxes etc.. to build a large coffin whcih took decades to complete.. Imjin war take place during his time.. so does the manchus attacking ming border. officals were also corrupted.. anyway he didnt care too..
If this was the case, then he might be too young to rule the empire. He depended on on his mentor. Sounded like his mentor wa sa backbone of the Ming empire...

I think he was lazy? Having a mentor, u just listen to the mentor. The mentor ask u do this u do this. In other words u just have to follow ur mentor words. If u not happy u can just have his head off his neck as u are the emperor. Hmm.. when the mentor die, Wanli Emperor had no one to follow so he just simply let his officer do the job. And i could see he wasnt even care about the war in korea although he approve of sending troops there.
He was a lazy snake, Emperor of the Snake Empire.

It is also published in China under the Chinese title '15th year of Wan-li'
The problem is said to be systematic and fundamental, and resulting from the foundations laid down by the Hong-wu emperor at the dawn of the dynasty

'1587: A year of no significance' is a great book detailing his reign and the year of the terminal decline of the Ming Empire
It is also published in China under the Chinese title '15th year of Wan-li'
The problem is said to be systematic and fundamental, and resulting from the foundations laid down by the Hong-wu emperor at the dawn of the dynasty
Huh. what Chow Yun-Fat, PhD was talking about? Is he promoting the book, or mentioning about the starting point of Ming declination? I wonder what was he saying...
