For those interested in hearing traditional Chinese music (Mr. Marshall?), besides the John Thompson guqin links listed, there's the Bells of Marquis Yi thread that features Warring States Period bells and musical style: http://www.chinahist...showtopic=13638.

Also, if any are interested, PM me and I can prepare some traditional Chinese folk music for you, i.e some featuring an ensamble, while others are solo instruments, such as the erhu, qin, pipa, etc...

If you are interested in purchasing Chinese musical instruments, CDs, or instructional books and videos, here is an excellent site in the U.S.:

http://www.chinesecu...ents/index.html

They carry a wide range of items (guzheng, pipa, xiao, dizi, hulusi, bawu, even a konghou harp!).

And here is another excellent site for purchasing instruments as well as learning about traditional Chinese music:

These stores are not good for purchasing guzheng. It looks like that the guzheng have a flame dried sound board, this make the guzheng sounding mettalic rather than a guzheng. It's the best when the soundboard is air dried.
What confuse me that they don't mention the factory who make these guzehng. wich is also not serious.
A very good store for guzheng is Sound of china This site have also a good forum for guzheng. The Guzheng from this site are really great. I have already purchased two guzheng from this store.

This website also sells some Chinese musical instruments, I've ordered from the before, so I know they are a legitimate company, I think they are in San Francisco.

I like the guzheng with the jade carvings, and the professional pipa. So pretty!

Are there any songs or any music from any groups/performers that are similar to "Jia Ren Qu" (the Beauty Song) from House of Flying Daggers?

With my limited Chinese, I have not been able to find a translation for the song 琵琶怨 Pipayuan by 李麗華 Li Lihua. It is based on a poem which I also do not know. Google just shows tons of machine translation entries containing ludicrous gibberish.

If this is better posted elsewhere, please suggest another thread.
