Below are some of the recommended historical TV series for 3 kingdoms history, which I would suggest to watch in order to learn more about 3 kingdoms history. Note that they are quite accurately portrayed (about 95%), as they are produced in mainland China and thus are well-researched.

You can buy these VCDs online at http://www.chinesema...m/tvmovser.html

Romance of 3 Kingdoms
Posted Image
(both chinese and english subtitles available)
http://www.chinesema...ofthrekin3.html
- a RECOMMENDED MUST for all 3 kingdoms fan to watch. This is one of the best historical drama produced by mainland China, featuring cool battle scene, props, sound effects, and plots. It was produced about 10 years ago, but still maintain many of interesting scenes such as battle of Guandu, battle of Cibi etc. I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND you to get a COPY of the VCD, esp. now that they've got english subtitles for those who don't understand chinese. I've watched it many times and it still is interesting to rewatch again.

Lu Bu and Diao Chan
Posted Image
(chinese version)
http://www.chinesema...buanddicha.html
- featuring the story of Lu Bu and Diao Chan, the legendary chinese beauty. I haven't watch this before, but it would be interesting to get hold of the drama and possibly romance between Lu Bu and Diao Chan.

Guan Gong
Posted Image
(chinese version)
http://www.chinesema...m/noname92.html
- featuring the life story of Guan Yu (one of the sworn brothers of Liu Bei), who is also called Guan Gong. Guan Gong also came to be known as God of war in chinese culture.

I know these things are historically accruate all the time, but wasn't the brotherhood a myth?

It would take about 1-2 weeks to finish watching the whole RoTK series...it's a great epic.

The story about Liu Bei, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei being sworn brothers is indeed a myth and not recorded in actual history. It was a product of the popular culture of the Ming dynasty, when Luo Guanzhong's novel was written.

I've only watched the first of these three series (and it had a great impact on me), but I can say with much certainty that the second one about Lu Bu and Diao Chan would only be 5% accurate at best. There are many such "historical" series in China or Hong Kong that are totally fictional despite using characters from history (the recent one about Han Wudi is a case in point). If you consider that the Diao Chan story was already a myth in the first place, how accurate do you think a full TV series based on this story would be? There would be so many added plot twists that it would make "Braveheart" look like a documentary!

Well, in Guan Yu's SGZ it said that "The Former Lord [Liu Bei] shared the same bed with the two and were as brothers. At grand gatherings, however, they always stood in his service, dealing with associates and standing unswervingly before danger."

In Zhang Fei's SGZ it said that "In his [Zhang Fei] youth he served the Former Lord with Guan Yu. Guan Yu was a few years his senior and Zhang Fei treated him as an elder brother."

I have not seen Liu Bei's SGZ, but I have talked with others about the story before who have read the Chinese one, and they have replied that the story is not in there.

I saw the Romance of the Three kingdoms T.V. series years ago when I was around 6 or 7. Its a very good drama with good plot, story, acting, etc. Now I have it on DVD in Thai, Chinese in english subtitles. I watch over and over now a days, it never gets boring. I would say it's one of the best T.V. series ever made.

Lu Bu and Diao Chan, Guan Gong sounds like an interesting T.V series...

Lu Bu and Diao Chan is terrible and an absurd twist on the Three Kingdoms fable.

Now, if every historical television series were well filmed, adapted, and chorographed like The Romance of the Three Kingdoms..........
