In general, if you are a new member, you will only have up to 30 posts to post in the forum, before you will be grouped as a "Xiucai Exam Candidate", whereby you will lose the ability to post in the forum. There are two ways to regain your posting ability:
1. The first way is to take our Imperial Exam, pass it and become a "Scholar Member". The "Imperial Examination path" is generally catered for those who are more 'academic-inclined' or 'scholarly-like', and those who want to become scholar members. Once you pass and become a scholar member, you will regain your posting ability and be able to continue to post in all the forums. There are however certain groups of member that can be exempted from exam, such as Visting Professors (from University), Researchers, Talented Artists.

2. If you do not wish to take our exam (simply because you lack the confidence), you can opt for the 2nd way, which is to participate in our "Exemption Plan". The "Exemption Plan", established in September 2007, is a means by which you can exempt yourself from taking the exam, and yet continue to participate actively in CHF's discussion. It was created to encourage more members to be active in the forum, especially those who are less academic inclined and are afraid or have no confidence in taking the exam due to lack of knowledge in chinese history.

<>How the "Exemption Plan" works?
The "Exemption Plan" (shortform "EP") is a system established within the forum that was designed to make you more active in the forum. When you first participate in it, you will start off with only a few forums. You will then have to post more actively in the forum, and as you post more, you will be promoted to another rank and will be able to gain access to more forums. The promotion due to your activeness will not just allow you the chance to access more forums, you will also enjoy many other benefits such as greater upload attachment size, increased storage space for PM, increased number of persons for mass PM etc.
> How to participate in the "Exemption Plan"?
Simply PM or e-mail me or any other administrator, expressing your wish to participate in the "Exemption Plan." The administrator will simply put you under the group "Magistrate" and you will regain your posting ability. To participate, simply join the discussion in CHF and be active. The more active you post in the forum, you will be promoted more quickly. DO NOT HOWEVER SPAM JUST TO INCREASE POST COUNT (you will be penalized). The highest rank that you can achieve is "Grand Minister of State (LS)" after a posting of 600. At that stage, you will be able access and post in all the forums within CHF.
> Who can participate in the "Exemption Plan"?
Any member who have not yet taken the exam can participate in the "exemption plan". Those who are already scholar members need not take part in the "exemption plan".
> Can I still take the Imperial exam during the "Exemption Plan"?
Yes, you can take the Imperial exam during the "Exemption Plan" if you decide to become a scholar member. Note that however, once you pass and become a scholar member, you will not be part of the "Exemption Plan" anymore.
