I've seen books on him. and I am pretty sure i've seen his biography too, but they are mainly in chinese. i've also tried searching for his biography in english but to no avail. same case with kangxi and qianlong. recently though, i managed to find a biography of Li Shih-Min, the founder of Tang dynasty.

Hi Workhard and Clio001

Where are you guys from by the way? If you're from Singapore, I can recommend you to go to Kinokuniya Bookshop at Takashimaya, go straight to the Chinese section and look under China History, there are quite a few books written on Yong Zheng Emperor or alternatively, you can go to Bras Basah and head to Popular bookshop on the 4th floor and look under its Chinese classics section where you will find some books written on Yong Zhen Emperor as well.

Hope i've managed to help you guys.....

Sofar, I haven't found an english book on Yong Zheng yet, but there are plenty of chinese books on Yong Zheng.

I would recommend reading "Yong Zheng Huang Di 《雍正皇帝》" by Er Yuehe (二月河).

Just a note that the PRC academic world is infuriated with what Er Yuehe has done for Qing studies. He's a great storyteller, but just keep in mind he's telling a story, and not always fully concerned with staying historically 'accurate.' Many of his novels have been adapted for television where the temptation to play up on rumors, maybes, and what ifs is even greater and now we have entire generations of people getting their information from heavily dramatized versions of what didn't really happen (there may also be an issue with how his approach to the Qing contradicts new PRC ethnicity policies). Read his stuff to pique your interest, familiarize yourself with the 'controversies,' then get down to the nitty gritty.

There's a relatively new《正说雍正》out published by the 上海古籍出版社, and this series is pretty good.

Full-length English biographies of just about any Emperor are pretty hard to come by. Jonathan Spence has done a lot of work on Kangxi, especially the famous "Emperor of China: Self-Portrait of K'ang-Hsi," which has even been translated into Chinese. Many analyses of events occurring during the Qianlong reign are out there, too.

For Yongzheng in English, these books exist: http://www.amazon.co...d=3EPBKIVH1DM1M and http://www.amazon.co...0628607-7286221 They're out of print and really old. Unable to get my hands on these I wouldn't know what they're like anyway, but Professor Bartlett doesn't usually let you down.

For a study of the Yongzheng Emperor in English, you might also want to check out Jonathan Spence's Treason by the Book. It is not a biography so much as a portrait of the Yongzheng period--a glimpse at Yongzheng's personal whims and style of rule through a detailed investigation of a treason case. Like virtually all of Spence's books, it is readable, well researched, and full of insights.

i actually found it accidentally in my school library B) it's a very old book though. published in 1933. it's written by C.P. Fitzgerald and the complete title is: Son of Heaven A Biography of Li Shih-Min, founder of the T'ang Dynasty. you could try searching for it if you want...sad to say, i haven't really read the book yet...been busy with other things and i also ended up reading 1587: a year of no significance. and i've recently bought Jonathan Spence's Self Portrait of Kangxi and Treason by the Book...both look good :)

looks lots of peopel interesting in KANGXI,YONGZHENG and QIANLONG.
if you can read Chinese, i suggest u to read ER YUE HE's Emperor Series . however, those books maynot be translated to English yet, BTW, English edition may give u an incompletely meaning of the author's original thinking.

Yin Zhen the future emperor yong zheng was the fourth son of kang xi emperor. At first Yin Zhen not having any real prospects for the throne simply supported the Crown prince yin reng together with his thirtheen brother yin xiang. However, the crown prince was soon deposed not once but twice by the emperor Kang Xi for his alleged treason, immorality and bad temperament. After the incident, Emperor Kang xi refused to name an heir leaving the position vacant thus cultiminating a serious feud amongst the imperial prince known as the " The imperial feud of the eight princes". The main contenders of the throne were the eight prince, thirteen prince and of course yin Zhen himself. After kang Xi's death Yin Zhen claimed that he is the chosen successor to him and ascend to the dragon throne as Yong Zhengort of his uncle Long e Duo who has taken charge of the security of the Beijing area and the powerful troops of general Nian Geng Yao. There are many rumours and persistent legends surrounding this emperor yong zheng. One theory suggest that he actually usurp the throne by accelerating the death of his father. This rumour however has been discredited as false propoganda made by his rivals and enemies. He however is indeed a cruel opponent to his enemies, many brothers has died or exiled during his reign and even earned a reputation as the Ferreting Emperor. However during his rather short reign of 15 years, the autonomy of the Ching monarchy consolidated further and the national economy recovered with the treasury filled to the brim , securinga solid foundation for his son Hong Li to bring forth a period of peace and prosperity.
