I visited Yunnan recently and the tour guide told use about a dating/marriage ritual practice by a minority ethnicity, but I forgot what ethnicity this ritual belongs too.
The dating/marriage ritual is like this.
Unmarried guys and girls of marriageble age will gather at night. Girls will stand on one side in a row and guys the opposite side. When a guy sees a girl he fancies, he will start to sing to her. If the girl return their his feelings, she will sing back. Then, both sides will start to dance by stamping their feet on the ground. They dances until the girl got tired and cannot dance anymore. The guy will then carry her to a private place to do what 'lovers should do'. After that, they will live together for 10 days. The guy must leave by the end of 10 days. The girl will give the guy a 'horn' from her headgear as engagement token. They guy will give her his belt. The guy can only return to the girl 1 year later to continue the relationship.
What minority ethnicty does this ritual belongs to and what is the reason for the 1 year seperation?
