Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone is in the know regarding the practise of 'traditional' archery disciplines in the PRC (Similar to Japan, perhaps?). I heard about it but have not been able to verify it. I would also like to know if there are any archery competitions or sword competitions a la kendo/kumdo that are not Western-based like fencing or Olympic archery. I am highly doubtful but hold some hope. wink.gif Contrary to what I thought when I moved here China doesn't seem the place to learn MA of any kind.

For archery, you need to go to non-han areas such as inner mongolia or tibet to find good competition. I heard (though havn't verified) they exist in areas of Liaoning and Sichuan also but the the majority of Han have lost their archery roots. There are a few who does continue practice them but most of them also have huge mistakes within them. 99% doesn't even know how to draw a bow correctly.

Well, technically Hong Kong qualifies as part of the PRC... so you might want to try ATARN.

Hm... I think Mongolians without bows would be a pity. Good to hear that. Do you think that they are related to bow competitions in the -stan countries like Kazakstan?

I would go there, but it's a bit far to go there on a regular basis and since right now my income is from teaching English going there would be impossible.

I've read that one of the "Six arts" of the Heavenly Master Taoists on Lunghushan (Mt. Dragon Tiger) in Jiangxi is archery. I'm sure you could look it up, but I have no idea if their style of archery is distinctively "Chinese" or not.
